:? can anyone offer a suggestion plz, on my series 3 were having problems selecting a gear... when i purchased the car the guy told me it just needed a master clutch cylinder but upon inspection it seems to be working fine same with the slave etc.
At first with the clutch depresed it wouldnt go into gear without the crunchy noises we all hate, then later it went into gear fine but no movement as the clutch pedal was lifted.
Then we found reverse works and almost took out the garage wall  it drives lovely backward... :P
id be greatfull of any ideas thanks keith

I also had the same problem and it came down to the clutch adjustment. There are 2 bolt under the plate in the engine bay and you can adjust the pedal. I know it sounds strange but you can adjust it up so the clutch plate clears more or less. Hard to do as you need think spanners to adjust the bolts. Hope this is your problem. Took me about twenty time to adjust it to get it correct. hope you do it in less time....
If you adjust to much the clutch will slip.
If you adjust it to little it wont clear thus having revers ok but forward gears fine. Put it in gear then start the engine this will let you know if the gears forward are ok.

Thanks for the Tip i was just reading your other post too lol
hopefully my good friend rick if he can pop round weekend  if ya reading rick nudge nudge m8  well try your idea first if car is in gear and i turn the ignition it will roll forward so thats a good sign at least

Yes good sounds like the clutch is not disengaging ( Clearing ) properly that makes it very hard to get in gear....

Nice to know you got it sorted mate. I have just changed the Gearbox today in my series 3 started at nine this morning and finnished at 8.30pm. What a pain in the back side. Found loads of metal bits in oil out of the old one. New one whines in fist second and third but other than that is ok. Will be going green laneing with it on the 23rd October we got a outing organised in the greenlane Forum. Nice to know you got it sorted tho...Have fun...
