Post by: vtrdaz on October 07, 2005, 18:05:14
Well i've got some straps sorted but now i need some shackles - anyone ideas where to get some decent ones and which sizes to go for?
and jate rings - any good? and where do they fit?

Cheers in advance.

I like jate rings, they've never let me down.

They replace the lower bumper mounting bolts on your chassis.

Dont know about shackles bute jate rings bolt to the chassis

The rears bolt to the same point as a tow hitch would.

I think the front fit where the steering guard would go

Dont think you can fit them with a tow hitch or steering guard in place at leest on a disco not sure on anything else.

You can fit them with other parts but you have to *modify* them

you can buy jate rings that are about 5mm wider so they fit around a steering guard on the front.

also when fitting them to the rear dont do them too tight otherwise they can trap shackles and the like between it and the chassis. mine are kick tight if you know what I mean!

i've got a rebel guard on the front with the recovery points - i reckon the recovery points would be ok in a straight pull but on an angle i'm not so sure - but i dare say we'll see one day!

probably not for vehicle recovery.
