Could anyone tell me where to get some cheap insurance. I've got a 1998 300Tdi 90 and im 20 and been driving for 3 years, and im currently paying around £400 and its not even in my name. Does any one know of anywhere who would insure me for less than this. Ive found a few, but you have to be over 21, but ive also heard you can get insurance for around 26 quid!!

I've just renewed with Adrian Flux (http://www.adrianflux.co.uk) & they were quite a bit cheaper than all the others I tried
(between £70 & £200)

im 20 aswell & currently insured with hastings direct (spit) on my 90 which was £518 FC in my own name with my dad as a named driver (my policy & hes on it)

yeh, i saw them and they look to be really good, with all the cover i need for greenlanes etc... but they say over 21's :( just got a quote back from adrian flux... £590 in my name fully comp... hmmm..

£590 fully comp bosent sound too bad for your age. I'm paying not much less than that at 24.

im 21 and the cheapest quote i found was norcounty insurance, about £740 fc but that was listing all the extras such as winch and snorkel blah blah blah i really struggled to get a decent quote with the winch on it most places wouldent even quote me because of it

Have you tried NFU? I think they might do insurance, got a mate who was insured with them..they were quite cheap!

nfu would quote me on a car at 20 but not my landrover :evil:
personally id try hastings direct for a quote but they can be a bit of a pain to deal with

I'm with Adrian Flux, I’m 20 and have TPFT policy on a standard 1990 110 2.5TD for £350.
Lancaster quoted me £300 fully comp, I pay Adrian Flux monthly so cant cancel to go with the Lancaster with out it costing me.

Last year, the NFU was over £200 more
I used to have my 110Tdi Hard-Top with them, that was the best quote at the time

There are a couple of different problems here, principly the problem is that fact that insurance in general is expensive, but the mitigating factor is the age of the driver.
There are of course two factors to this, firstly (and probably mainly) is the fact that anyone under the age of 25 is appearnlyt obliged to career into a bus load of nuns every three months, making their insurance comically expensive (I know, I was quoted £1200 a year for a motor with a declared value of £300)
Secondly the problem is that the policies made by insurance companies tend to discriminate against off road vehicles. A 200tdi does have a 2.5l engine, albeit, a 2.5l engine out of a tractor, but a "large" engine by most counts. This tends to discriminate against younger drivers who are not given the same degree of tolerance or understanding that older drivers are. For example I was told that I would "race" in the 2a.. They simply didn't understand why I was giggling rather loudly at the suggestion.
The best bet is actually to play a couple of games, and basically abandon any hopes of a "good" motor until you have hit 25, at which point if you have any sense (I didn't :() you will have some no claims bonus and will not get the automatic "double it and add a bit" quotes that under 25s get.

I totally agree, old chap, but £300 for a F/C policy at the age of (practically) 40 doesn't make me very happy. Same postcode 'risk' as previous address as well

I remember that from insuring my very first car; a 1256cc Chevette (wouldn't have minded if it was the 2.3 HS derivative)
Apparantly my old 2A Light-Weight was at risk of being attractive to thieves as I'd fitted some spot-lights to help the headlamp glow-worms light up the way home at night :roll:

i just about bought one o them for my first car,mainly cos it had a HS kit fitted n a set o big lights upfront but guy was wantinga bit much folding for an old brush painted car

yeh, tried NFU earlier today, and got 315 FC in dads name, which is the best so far, adrian said last week i was too young, and today they quoted me 590, so confused with how a week can make a difference! but 3 cars are taking their toll at the moment, so need to try and save money if i can, as always thought around 350 for a landy was pretty good. thanks for all your help guys
