can somebody help me please i went to bures today and had a good day at the end i went through the big pond in the middle to wash off some mud and my rev counter stopped working i didnt really think much of it untill i got home and later on went to go back out in the disco and it was a flat as a pancake ive checked all the wires and everything seems ok and is all on so has anyone had any problems like this and what have i broke is it a complete new alternator or is it one of those little black boxes on the back of the alterntor please help :D .  joe

is your charge light on? may be a short else where?

no the light didnt come on thats why i wasnt to bothered when the rev counter stopped working ](*,)

its not just full of muddy water and mud? wash it off with clean water, check the plug on the back as well make sure the wires are connected still, er could be a diode pack gone down causing a permanent short thru the alternator does the light glow faintly when ign off? or just unlucky and alternator has died of old age

ive just been outside to check if the light was glowing and nothing i then turned the ignition on and all the normal lights come on but not the battery light  now i cant remember if the battery light ever worked ](*,)  and that would exlpain why no battery light glowing but still doesnt help with the alternator prob #-o

if battery light not working that could be the prob the alternator exciting current needs something to do and turning the light on is it, may be the bulb has gone?

hi i had the same prob
the rev counter runs off the alternator
mine had gone due to age , the water just helped it on its way
mine was £75 recon but is a 100 amp on a 300 tdi yours  will be a bit cheaper i think

well its fixed now i had the old unit tested and it was confirmed dead so i got a new one for £70 its on and it is all working again even the battery light thanks for the help :D .  joe

Got a non charging alternator on the lightweight no voltage, so wipped it off changed it for the other spare, to find out that its got a permanent charging light :cry:

Seems like things go round in blocks

I've got one more to try now, oh what fun :wink:
