i want to put a snorkel on my series 3 do i just fit this to the bendy hose that goes to the current oil bath filter and is this safe to do, i don't want anything to get sucked through that will cause damage. Cheers.

Mine is not a good example as you can get alsorts in mine. But all I do is put it back on the filter for road driving then when I am going into the water just stick it onto the pipe and wade to go......

if i buy a snorkel though will it have some kind of filter in it? Don't want any dust or mud getting sucked in when i am playing off road.

Not sure have a look on the net at Series 3 Snorkel Kit. see what you come up with. Dont forget to let all know on here when you have found one and how much.. I think they are at about £50

found one on rebel 4x4 i think its £80, sais it is a universal snorkel think i might get it. i hope i can fit it directly onto the bendy tube.
-
You mad. Mine only cost £9.92.... ok its a bit of a faf changing it over when I go in the water but that is the only time it is needed. Just need to get some wellies now eh. Worked well last weekend my snorkel...LOL
Next time may be I should take a drivers snorkel.....ha ha

i made a snorkel for my series 3 and it cost about £30 and that included a mushroom top from Paddocks so it looked half proffesional. the rest was a length of black drain pipe and a piece of flexible pipe onto an air filter casing of a Peugeot 306(that i just happend to have).

Anything surely can't be worse than the original filter? you are after all only sticking a tube on the end of it?
Tip: if your going to bodge it yourself try and sela any flexible pipes with Vaseline or similar (grease may perish them) to rpevent water seeping in.
Honestly though - if the water ever gets that high your going to need a diving suit. I personally think most offroaders are like boy racers - doing it for the looks.

Anybody who is going to play in water should have a Snorkel as the manual fan throws the water all over the engine and the filter box. All you need is water up to the bumper and the fan is in it. It is not worth trying it as if you get water in the filter you are not driving it home that day and may be not for a while. It is not a fact of its for looks. It is there for a reason. No a snorkel does not just fasten onto the old filter it is not possible on a series. You need a separate filter box which is water tight.
If you are thinking about going into water any deeper than your bumper then fit a snorkel as if you dont it will be alot more expensive than a snorkel. Not worth chancing.

The only thing is that i have heard that diesels can start palying up if you put different air filters on such as a KandN filter the snorkel should not give me any problems will it?

throw the S3 oil bath filter in the skip be it for a petrol or diesel & get a 90/110 paper element filter & housing & use that as a basis for your snorkel,it only has one pipe in & one pipe out & a bung on the bottom that you seal up anyway,
see here for some more info on how to fit a 90 air box http://forums.mud-club.com/viewtopic.php?t=10058

Awesome - I may be changing my mind on snorkels after a day at Tixover yesterday where I had to sit and watch everyone else drive through the water because it was too deep for us to chance it.

Good to see you got the Idea now. It's not worth the hastle letting your engine drink water they prefer fuel. They choke on water and sometime drown and die. I had fit my snorkel to my landy and as soon as I got onsite I thought I have never had a chance to go into the water so today is the day.....
Big mistake... First in...First stuck and wet feet... Just ask jimthelandyman he was watching all of it....
I did not take into account that you have to let the big boys go in first to stur up the silt at the bottom. It felt like I was floating then it felt like I was stuck...and I was for about 30 seconds whilst the water gushed in and all over my feet....GOD IT WAS COLD....
Was funny eh jim.....?
Tell them how it looked from your angle...
