Has anybody here travelled overland across Africa?  I'm looking for somebody whose brains I can pick...

There have also been a couple of trips there in LRO recently, I can dig them out for you if you like.

A contact of mine from Coventry was planing to do it in his Toyota 4Runner- he's in working in Zimbabwe now doing 4x4 tours. How far he got with the project I don't know (think the car got shipped there via boat in the end). Here's his website on Overland Africa. Might be worth dropping him an e-mail?

I was toying with the idea of doing a long trip next summer.  However, for marital reasons, the 6 month expedition I'd been hoping for doesn't look very likely.  I'm really interested to know how far south I'd get in 2 months or 3 months, but I have no idea how long it takes to travel as the place is so vast!  I thought if I can find somebody who's done it already, they will have a pretty good idea.

Or a loop around the Med to take in Europe, Africa, MidEast etc - UK, France, Spain, Gib, Morocco, Algeria, Libya, Egypt, Jordan, Israel, Lebanon, Syria, Turkey, Greece then maybe across to Italy and up through Switzerland, Germany, Belgium.  You could probably do that in 3months and always take a boat across the Med to cut out some bits for time/finance/war reasons.  Cheers.

Sounds good, doesn't it?  Having already visited the Middle East a few times, I'd ideally like to go anticlockwise round Africa, but of course a circular route then becomes tricky in such a short time span.  So I could head south and then ship the 101 back and fly back when I ran out of time.  Just not sure how far that would take me!
