Title: oil temp

fitted a digital  diesel oil temp gauge today to cab its wired to a replacement oil dip stick which has the reader right at the sump where its needed any body know what sort of max temps i should be looking for it reads farenheight and celcius and i can set to the max temp and after that an alarm will trigger which then gives a visual signal on the display was given this ages ago so i dont know to much about it but it seeems to work fine just would like to know the oil temp ranges for a 200tdi disco under load ect.. would be great help if anyone knows

An engineer once told me "anything less then 130 celcius and it's too thick".  As he worked on designing the Valencia engine I have no reason to doubt his advice.

actually with the rad cooling water and oil, I should imagine the temp would be pretty much the same?

But then you're cooling it with something that's about 100 celcius anyway.

Wish I could find some textbooks, then I could give yo a smart-arsed answer.
