Only if your DVD player is 'multi-region' ! - some of the cheaper units will only play UK (region 1 ??), but then I've got a mate who got his UK-only unit 'chipped' to play all discs !

Mace, tell me the brand and model number of your DVD player, and I'll send you some instructions (if it can be done). More often than not, it is just a matter of using a code to "unlock" the regions.

UK and Europe is Region 2. I think it must be the US that is region 1..... surprise, surprise.... can't image the US ever wanting to be number 2

I think most modern players are multi region, so depends how old the unit is. It was put in place to allow film companies to release films at different times in different countries. It meant you couldn't by a copy from the US before it was officially released in the UK. In practice, the tweaks required to the player were easy and it soon became irrelevant, so the player manufacturers just made them multi region anyway.

At least, that is the way I understand it.

The inlaws are just about to jump state to avoid Hurricane Wilma and wanted to pick up some Disney DVD's for the kids before they leave. I didn't know whether they would work or not but we haven't got a cheap player so I guess they would work OK.

It you have a DVD-rw then use DVDShrink to make a "backup" and it will remove the regeon code.

Mace, unless you bought it as "Region free", and believe me, they use it as a selling point, chances are it is region locked.

As I said, find out make and model, and I'll find you the unlocking codes.
