James found a disco this morning I couldn't resist taing some pics of the poor lad, who had managed it when it was a 3feet deep but not quite at 3½ feet deep... to make matters worse it was daddies car!
The dent in the back is where the bridge stopped him from going further down the river after he got hydraulic lock!

he didn't take the bridge cus it's only about 2 foot wide for pedestrians only - or about 2 miles round trip - oh and something about driving in mud and water being fun - don't understand it myself! ;-)

There's one in Wakefield that a good few years ago (20-ish?) used to be driveable in a normal car & you'd only get the tyres wet; not even the rim!I used to do it in my Chevette & Subsequent 'Sooty-Mobile' (Bedford Rascal)
Even as late as February 1998 (http://community.webshots.com/photo/97182853/102674376gTUwRE), it was still fairly driveable.
In winter the water did get deep & covered the (4foot above stream bed) bridge.
By November 2003 (http://community.webshots.com/photo/79656053/97337770oAgHTJ) it was well over grown.
I went down on Monday with my waders, & within 15foot of entering the admittedly swollen stream it was almost to the top of the waders (3foot!!)
I've been given to understand that due to the local kids throwing all sorts of rubbish in, it's occassinally cleared out with a JCB & has at least one 4foot hole
In fact it'd probably be the same story if I tried to drive it

great piccies ,some people just don't try the depth first
-
think someones about to lose there pocket money for a few months and the keys will be locked well away
-
he was meant to be driving to scotland (from berkshire) to pick up rock samples for his uni course! His mum said his personal loan would be increasing.
Of course I offered to help out by buyingthe salvage of the vehicle :-) Worst case I reckon a 300 tdi should be able to be had for £1000, everything else should dry out given time and a lot of mildue remover!

i thought that in maritime law, if you are asked for a tow, you have salvige rites on the ship.
would this apply to floating disco's
-
Ive Heard of wading but that takes the biscuit
Daddy will not be best pleased i think not!!!!!
Silly boy - ever heard of the stick method - check it first before going through..... i have too but ok i admit it never bother either.
-

do they do sonar for disco's then
-
there's a depth marker in the middle - not sure if it's in one of th pics or not - it was 3 feet when i got there - it was 6 inches higher when james got there.
Mummy and Daddy both there when I got there, not at all impressed!
-
Unmodified
Not anymore :P
-
could have been worse.....
he could have tried this one ........
This was still no where near the bottom....
-
or this one....
We went into this and suddenly found it would end up at roof height !
Sididuous (the lad in the range) didnt arf get it into reverse quick ! (how he kept it running with the water up to his upper tailgate il never know)
-
We actually gave this one serious consideration.
Estimated to be at bonnet height (with 5 inches of lift)
It was the sheer length of it that caused us to bottle it @ 110 feet
-

Sounds horrible to me, you'd have to wash your cas afterwards.... yuck

Ouch!!
Note to self
Check the depth of water before wading
:D
-
how deep was that when we went throught it then matt ? lol i remember the old couple having there sangers in the car watchin the ducks as u went in for a swim
-
My experience of the deep blue was in the 200Tdi Disco - high tide mark was a good couple of inches above the door mirrors at the front, and cleared the spare tyre on the back door. So quite deep then, and for quite a long time - I reckon at least a minute of clenched sphincters before it sank enough to get traction again.
Fortunately everything was well waterproofed, although the CD player didn't survive. It's amazing to experience a diesel engine running under a couple of feet of water for a while.
Nobody got a photo because I think they were too worried

we went through it upstream of that place - it was only about 2 foot but hard to tell as whilst one side of the sign says 2 feet whilst the other says 1'6"!!!
