yes just for rock climbing a have a wrangler as my main vehicle, (attached) plenty of places here to use the rock crawler,

Looks like you've done something interesting with the engine / gearbox / transfer box?

Is it something like placing the transfer box becide the gearbox and using a chain drive (or another transfer box) to connect the two together?

I've had a mid engine vehicle on the drawing board for about a decade now - but something like that would solve a lot of the problems in one hit - not least reversing the drive so you don't have to invert the axles.

Can you give us any more info in engine, boxes & axles?

Your's is one of the first vehicles of this type I've seen where everything looks deliberate, rather than designed on the fly as it's been assembled.  Nice bit of design & tube work!

specs
saturn 1.9 fuel injected motor and transaxle (general motors)
flipped d60 with 4130 shafts, arb front,detroit rear 5.38 r&p
fox air shoxs
39 inch bfg krawlers and allied beadlocks
4 link suspension front and rear
4 wheel steering
mt loagan drive flanges and 35 spline outers
full hydro steering

as you can see no extra transfer box, the gearbox is a transaxle automatic with props straight to the front and rear axles......
simple but hey it works!!!!!

Regarding the picture 000_0013.jpg above ... f'ing H, are you mad :shock:  :shock:  Probably just a whole lot braver than I am :oops:

Must go and watch some of this stuff sometime. Does it go on in England, or would I need to travel further afield?

like most things it started in america, but soon it will be here in the isle of man both waggers and i are real keen on this sort of thing.

come over to the "rocks" nice video from the land-down-under  but those guys are all right foot........it has moved on since then now about control.

and as for expensive nah....my friend does rally and that is what you call expensive.
this rock crawling thing is very inexpensive.......buggy tyres thats it!!!!
they are closing more lanes......so what are the hard core four wheel people going to do?

Hmm, not necessarily true, but I see your point. For long years now I've looked at rock-crawling and felt it would be a bonza direction for UK trials to head in, but for one slight snag. We kinda lack sufficient suitable terrain to make it a viable proposition in the UK. :(

And that sucks.

We do mud really well, because we've got an endless supply of it. What we lack are areas with big rocks in (most of our quarries are either gravel or big vertical). Any bouldery areas are usually well protected environmentally. I've even toyed with the idea of building a crawling course (like Tong, but bigger) but it is cost prohibitive.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see it happen, but its scope in the UK would be very limited, compared to other forms of off-road motorsport.

If you buy, lets us know how you get on, and raffle a drive at Christmas!  :wink:

Have any of you been to the 'Grand Canion' site at Shoreham Cement works quarry near Brighton?  Although it's not really set up for rock-crawling at the moment, I have often thought it would be possible to 'biuld' a frightening course there with nothing more than a digger.

Just a thought!
