Title: Are all Land rover dealers useless?
Post by: snezza69 on November 06, 2005, 10:19:09
Not to mention any names but I needed to go to a landrover dealer to get some brackets for my project.  Genuine only parts were available.  The dealer ordered them and said they would be ready the following moring. Cool (I thought).  Turned up the next morning to find the brackets I ordered had mysteriously turned into steering UV joints....... (really usefull).  Showed them what I needed on their computer system and turned up the following morning to find their computer system had the wrong part numbers for their diagrams.  I wouldnt have minded much but I had taken some time off work to get my project rolling and lost 3 days.  Are there any dealers out there who know anything about landrovers?

OK I was pretty sure that would be the answer.  Who can you recommend?

Mark.

I may be willing to travel to get the parts I need, or if I am likely to get the parts I need arrange delivery, but ultimateley I would like to be able to speak to someone who does not need a chassis number as most people I know dont have an original land rover anymore!  :D  :D  :D

Oddly enough, the local LR dealer isn't that bad round here,  I've been in a few times and whilst I would question their prices and have never tried to buy a car off them their parts department are very friendly and knowledgable.

Granted, they're not as good as some people I could mention, but they're usually able to help, even persuading you out of buying things they don't think you need.

Guess we're just lucky :)

That'd be Hunters in Southampton

Not the cheapest of places to get parts from (prohibitively expensive for me) but on the occasion that I have had to use them, they've been quite knowledgable.

I finally got the part I needed, but it took three attempts.  The dealers even got it wrong when I showed him on the computer which part I needed.  OK I accept he has no control when the computer system has a mistake, I did kind of object when I tried to tell me that the correct part had come!!!  He was so quick to go on the defensive that I can only assume he was used to it.  Any way as I had taken some holiday to get some work done, I ended loosing three days waiting for the correct part. :x  :x  :x
