Yep, that's we're in for tonight!
Been putting out Storm Warnings to shipping all day! :?
The latest is in the Shipping Forecast which is giving this for our area:
HEBRIDES
SOUTH OR SOUTHEAST 6 TO GALE 8, BECOMING CYCLONIC GALE SEVERE GALE 9
TO VIOLENT STORM 11, PERHAPS HURRICANE FORCE 12 LATER, THEN SOUTHWEST
6 TO GALE 8. RAIN THEN SHOWERS. MODERATE OR GOOD
We have a Severe Weather Warning in force saying:
Severe Gales Affecting Eilean Siar & Highland
Stormy conditions will develop this evening with gusts of 70-90mph. Eilean Siar and areas to the northwest of the Great Glen are at greatest risk where gusts up to 100mph are possible over mountains and exposed coasts. Strongest winds will occur between 9pm Monday evening and 3am Tuesday morning, decreasing thereafter.
What's causing it, well it's this little thing sneeking up the West coast of Ireland:

And this is where it will be at midnight tonight!

Right on top of ME! :(scared):

The Met Office online forecast for Devon yesterday morning showed -63 degrees celsius, snow and 212% cloud cover. I take it this was a "computer glitch" as it wasn't quite that bad on the moors...
-
Your mission (should you choose to accept it!):
Tie everything down, put everything away, get some grocery shopping in, lock the door......
.... and hide under the bed!
Hope all goes well tonight.

This not what we wanted to be broadcasting to all shipping in our area today: :(

HEBRIDES, FAIR ISLE
SOUTHWESTERLY VIOLENT STORM FORCE 11 INCREASING HURRICANE FORCE 12 SOON

Seriously tho, I hope everything goes ok for you, take care up there.

Er, that'll be my doorstep then!
Good job I'm cleaning the hiking gear today and not tommorrow then. It forecast "fresh to gale force" (quite a broad scope) for yesterday. Was planning to bag my first munro (big mountain) decided on an easier hill after seeing the forecast, still 798 mtrs tho'! Wind was bloomin awful up to the summit then died off till we got half way back down again. Managed to stop and admire the veiw from the top. As seen on attached pic. Good luck for tonight mate. Think you might need it!
-
batten down the hatches and good luck
Seriously hope it all goes as well as it can with weather
-

You tell that to my aching feet!
Wind's starting to really get up here now, and it's lashing with rain.
Don't envy Budgie and his buddies.

Budgie, Make sure you batten down the hatches boy, we want to see you on here tomorrow --- take care !
-
Getting a bit rough here as well. Just been out with the dogs. Really struggled to walk down the lane against the wind and horizontal rain, and in the wood it's deafening.

Thanks for the thoughts everyone. :D
It's chucking it down up here and the wind is just starting to get going. Now at around 45-50 mph.
The pressure is dropping like a stone, I've been online for 40 minutes and the pressure was 982 when I started and is now readin 977.3 millibars. 5 millibars in 40 minutes is one hell of a drop and it's been like that since we got home from work.
Looking at the latest satellite picture at 2300 UTC it looks like the sting in the tail will hit here a bit later them the met office thought. So looks like we're in for a noisy night of it.
Still, the fires going nicely and we've got torches & parafin lamps on stand-by.
Oops, lights starting to flicker!!
Pressure's now dropped to 976.5 while I was writing this.
Think I better post this as the lights are flickering quite bad now.
Catch you all tomorrow night when I'm in work and I'll let you know how it went.
Want to see what's happening? Have a look here: http://www.xcweather.co.uk/

Well we got some strong winds here in North Yorkshire but it did not take my shed roof of this year or drop it in next doors garden...lol
-
Well........... :?
Don't know what all the fuss was about. Nothing more than a normal storm for up here really. :D
Highest average wind speed was 47 knots (54mph) and the highest gust was 68 knots (78mph) recorded at 4am. After that it was all over and the system has disapated into the Northern North Sea.
No damage, no leaks in the roof, power stayed on, just a bit of a noisy night that's all. Not sure how the rest of the country faired though. :?
But............If that WAS the remains of one of the US hurricanes then we may have a few more to come before too long and winter hasn't even started yet!! :(scared):
-
Storm or no storm.. glad ur ok Budgie
:)
-
Hello Budgie
It was a little rough here last night Some of the island lost power
We lost 20 odd roof tiles plus some guttering
Slept like log all night long. Had one or two drams then stuffed cheese into my ears :(contented):
-
Hi Duncan,
Sorry to hear about the damage, at least it wasn't too much.
Nothing over here at all, even the power remained on all night!!
Hope you managed to the cheese out of your ears! :D
