Assume for a minute that sometime in the future all the byways are reclassified, the pay and play sites are close down by some clause in the NERC bill, and local authorities find a way to ban 4x4s from entering their city ...
...what would you choose to drive if your 4x4 was no longer an option?
-
Something like this perhaps
-
Thats a bit big for parking in Tescos though.......
If I get my slow fun taken away I will have to get a fast car and become a boy racer again (much more anti-social!)
-
some huge american muscle car.
plymouth road runner perhaps.

My 4x4.. I'll happily avoid the cities :-)
-
what i drive now
or maybe a VR4
or an SL65
-
Disco Geordie,
I drive something similar to that every day, so I'd just carry on the way I do now, no worries.
-
Yep, I'd go along with whats been said so far.........
If the Disco had to go, I'd go back to driving some gas-guzzling speed machine too.
I've always fancied an Impreza, but then I like my licence too :?
Jim
-
I have to agree with Tim. I hate driving in cities anyway. I would still keep my LR for ferrying stuff about and for towing the caravan (nothing better out there as far as I am concered)
However if the powers that be banned 4x4's completely then it would have to be an Audi Quattro Avant (any one will do) for towing the caravan AND a Classic Mini Cooper with a Honda V-Tec engine shoehorned in
-
Just had a thought, if 4x4's got banned, would the ban include:
Audi TT and other Quattro's
Impreza's
and the other 4wd's that I can't remember.....
Anyway, they'll never ban 4x4's from entering cities - just think, what would the old bill use to transport and escort the Royals in ??????????
Jim
-
I'd drive myself to the airport and leave airstrip one for good :)
-
the royals have got satnav installed now so it doesnt matter
besides isnt the royal coach and horses classes as All terrain?
-
I'd leave. New Zealand or South Africa being my destinations of choice.
When MY freedom of CHOICE is removed from me, then I will remove myself from this country.
They'll be telling us who to vote for next...oh wait, hang on...they already do....
-
remove front prop and tell them its a 4x2
and remember Land Rover did make a 4x2 (can anyone remember that)
-
I'll get more use out of my V-Max
-
Well, probably my 6x6.
But failing that, I'd probably have a crack at a Prius or something like that.
-
I'd get me one of these...
Use to drive one at my old work in Wales.. there great fun... just like a go cart. Even with the Traction Contol I managed to put one sideways round a roundabout
What most people fail to realise is they are/have
Mercedes Engine, & Sync shift selectable gear box
Driver & Passenger air bags
ABS
Traction Control
11ltr Fuel tank!!
We managed to get 3 PC base units & 2 x 17" monitors in one!! Oh, and we used to use it for transporting 100m drums of Belden COAX (rather heavy) from the store to the warehouse.
Fun Fun Fun
-
Would probably go back to a minibus, for the runabout I carry for the other half, it wouldn't fit in a car. But i would probably fight the restriction because the car is the only vehicle suitable with the conversions
-
bit of fun
an S15 for drifting
and an evo 10 when they come out! ;)
-
i would have a warrior afv that would do me watch out no10
-
Probabaly still be in my current car (Hilux Surf) as it's only 4x4 when I want it to be- otherwise it's in 4x2 mode for road driving- i.e. like 90% of most other cars. Just show's what nonsense the Anti's are perpetrating really...
-
Well personally, it might be the thing that pushes me out of the country (I'm leaning that way already anyway) - and Tony Blair wonders why we lose so many educated people from the country (1 in 6 apparantly, I'm surprised it's not higher the way they're going). But if I stay, I'll probably dust off the Porsche 944 and drive that around. The missus would probably get a classic mini cooper for herself.
It's clear that climate change or road saftey would get no better and perhaps a little worse if they took our 4x4s away. We'd simply replace them with sports cars, classics, two cars to meet the need, or leave the country to go somewhere less restricting.
-
My 90 in loondon. They'll be prying the keys from my cold dead hands before they remove the freedom of choice from me!
-
leave airstrip one :)

S'funny, his (real) name was Blair as well, scary how they both have the same idea
Orwell (http://www.k-1.com/Orwell/)

Perhaps another certain GM product in bright orange (or black)?
Failing that a Highland Green '68 Mustang GT390 (the 'Bullitt' car)
-
I think I'd have to get one of these :D
-
Well i shall extend my garden by bulldozing the rest of the village to clear the way for my private 4x4 playground, but for day to day needs i'll fall back on one of these.......
...how dare they argue with me when i arrive to use the recycling facilities?
-
MY Motorcycle for city use, and my Trike for other use.....
Hang on .....whats a City?????????

When things in this country get that bad, I'll be taking my degree and my huge pile of cash to New Zealand too.
I had a colleage who was thinking of going to Canada, he had the interveiw and everything and apparently they score you:
Married=high score, you won't be stealing their women
Kids=high score, you won't be having a family on our health system
property=high score, some capital behind you
money invested in kid's name=very high score, planning for their education
so he's doing really well, then they asked "what do you do"
"I manage the quality department for a manufacturing company, we are a tier 1 supplier to the off-highway automotive industry"
The interviewer gets something from his desk, called the hitlist, sure enough number 4 on their 'most wanted', quality engineers.
The way the guy looked at him, he thought they wern't going to let him out of the embassy!
Anyway, the Canadians did offer to pay for him to go over, set him up with an interview etc etc, couldn't do enough for him.

I would keep my Land Rovers but I might have to try and buy my Escort back

Used to be a 66 in the village when I was a kid; Side-pipes, Wolfrace alloys, red with a thin white stripe down the side.
Gorgeous to a 12year old & I still think it was
-
I agree with the masses here!
I'd be offski to warmer climes.
Maybe California (where my Mum and Dad live) or OZ/NZ (where i also have family)
(maybe i should have bought that Vauxhall VX220 Turbo when i had the chance!!)
-
some huge american muscle car.
plymouth road runner perhaps.
man after my own heart :D
i would keep my land rover.....its fun to drive and oozes character....
-
I would carry on driving my Jeep. Why should our types of vehicles be subject to a ban when these Chav cars cause more social problems than all of us put together. Plus, in my job, (Medical Rep) I don't go into city centres unless there's a hospital - so............ stuff 'em
-
This what I used to race, fully road legal and 145bhp out of 1400cc (that makes about 210bhp per ton  ). It has stood for 14 years and is now being restored (again!). Currently bare shell been grit blasted ready for plenty of welding! Hopefully top the 150bhp mark with the new engine :D
So I guess I would just get back to blasting around the lanes in 'Kermit', my lifetime friend. :D
-
I'd have to dust down my swedish tat and reserect the mighty sven  http://aymat.free.fr/racevolvo360.mpg
-
i think you should bud, might mean we would meet at say otterburn but it would be good for a laugh
-
too much speed-too little talent
