Title: Battery Fault
Post by: scorpio on November 11, 2005, 21:28:44
I have a yellow top optima on my Discovery and am having trouble, if fully charged and off the vehicle it shows no sign of power loss over 3 weeks. Put it back on the vehicle and it is flat within 3 days, I had the battery checked at a optima dealer and they said it is ok. I can find no problems with the electrics and have done nothing to it to create a problem. Anyone got any ideas before I take it to a auto electrician.

Get an ammeter (10A or so) and stick it inline with the positive connection.. see if there is any current draw with the vehicle off.  (Don't start the vehicle with this inline... it'll go pop)

That will give you a confirmation that something is going on

If everything you know of is off do you get any sparks when taking the battery leads off?

I'll check the voltage/current ratings on my ammeters
