Title: Series 3 Brakes seized
Post by: paul_g on November 13, 2005, 10:53:39
Just been out to take my series 3 for a spin and the brakes sieze on when you press the brake pedal. Leave it for a bit and it backs off again. Sounds like master cylinder trouble to me. Anyone had this? Is there a quick fix or is it a new master cylinder?? The brakes have never been good on this truck since i bought it a few months back!! Its a single circuit master cylinder if that help. Cheers!!

Does it have a servo on it ?

It does sound like a master cylinder / servo fault to me.

Wait while i go misty eyed at the thought of a servo....................   No servo fitted, you can tell by the limp i have due to over developed muscles in my right leg...........

If its just locking one wheel it's the wheel cylinder or shoes in that drum.  If it's all the wheels, as Tim says it's almost certainly the master cylinder.  I had this on a Jensen once - 150 miles from home on a Sunday afternoon, the front brakes would release after about 10 minutes.  I ended up clamping the hoses with 2 sets of mole grips and driving home on the rear brakes.
