Title: Tyres questions
Post by: kevbutty on November 13, 2005, 18:30:15
Does anybody know whats the 'tallest' tyres I can fit on a Disco 1 with standard 16" alloys, a 2" suspension lift & standard arches.

I want to fit BF goodrich allterrain's.

Any help & advice would be much appreciated.

Gords has 235/85x16,s on his alloys with a 1" inch lift so they would be ok

I have 215/85R16 with no lift - no problems, no mods required and performance is excellent. If you wanna go wider you can fit 245/75R16 but that will reduce your lock quite a bit and most likely need the rear arches cutting slightly at the rear.

Fitting a 235/85R16 tyre you will have to 'Camel cut' the rear arches.
Just a trim!
But what a difference the size makes to the look of the car.
You can (just about) see the cut i made for my 235's  HERE (http://members.mud-club.com/profiles/Jake/gallery/jake7/3/483a414915f1b33645e9d32abf226be1.jpg/UmVhciBhcmNoIGN1dA==)

Morning, Simon, I'd like to put 215/85s on my car but I'm concerned that they'll foul to bodywork because I have aftermarket steel wheels fitted which are slightly more offset than standard.  I notice you haven't had any problems with your setup, can you tell me what sort of wheels and tyres you have?

Many thanks,

Phil.

Thanks Guys

I was thinking of 235/85/16's ,but I'm still a bit confused if they will fit or not without modding the arches  :?

'Gords' says they will fit with a 1" lift. Is that definately correct  :?:

Well, all I can say is I've got a 1" lift, I've got 235/85x16 tyres and I've done the "camel" cut on my rear arches (nothing else). The only place the tyres touch is the brackets that the mud flaps mount to, but that's probably because I haven't put my extended bump stops on yet.

Have a look in my gallery for some pictures.

Im the same as gords, 235.85.16 MTs. I had to cut the rear arch but not as much as a camel cut.  I also need bump stops as I hit the mud guard flaps.

Basically, I got pictures from Mace showing where to cut - it's kind of where the arch starts coming down, to a point 1" back from the current edge. I went a bit mad and went 2" back   It looks jolly super though

I quite like the sound of 245/75/16's They got a bit more girth

I not to worried about reducing the lock, I've got 33's on my 90 & its ok.

But I really wanted to avoid cutting the arches  :o

Mmmmmm  :-k

Ok I've decided I want to fit 245/75/16's (I can get them for 80 quid each through work!) & I'm gonna cut the rear arches :?

But I do have just one question will then fit on my alloys .They have 205 goodyear's on them so I assume they are a 6" wide rim? Do I need a 7" rim for this or will they squeeze on  :?:

Oh & does any one have any close up pic's of the 'camel' mod? & do I have to modify the mudflap brackets at the back of the rear wheelarch?

Thanks guys
