Got caught short today after winning an auction on ebay for a turbo. It turns out that the £190 quid I tried to send via paypal was over my limit and now I need to set up a direct debit. That's fine, but they do it by sending some codes which appear on your bank statement after about 3 days, so my turbo is going to be 3 days delayed as a result (at least). Just a warning to those that use paypal then, get your account fully activated and authorised before you buy something expensive
By the way, does anyone know what the unverified sending limit is (all I know is that it doesn't cover £190)?

500 quid I think

how come I couldn't send £190? Is it a running total from the first time I used paypal?

Yes, it is cumulative.

it is related to how much your credit card is limited to and the outstanding balance on it it only needs to be a matter of pence over too

I don't think that is the case. Aside from anything else, they have no way of telling what your card limit is, since you can set it up on a debit card / standing order.
I'm pretty sure it is just a cumulative £500 limit.

Yes, it is. My brother has just gone through the exercise of setting up a verified account for the same reason.
It's all fairly easy to do, just takes a little while. If you've got Internet Banking, you can keep checking daily for the codes/amounts, rather than waiting for your bank statement to arrive.
-
You may already have the code!!!!
If you supplied your bank details to PayPal went you joined then it will be on your statement from that time.
When you first joined they charged you a joining fee and this will be on your statement, by the side of the amount is the code they are looking for.
I went through this a few months ago and had to go back through 3 years worth of statements to find it.
I'm not sure what the limit is but they count the amount spent on the card over a month. So if you've spent alot on eBay in the last month and used PayPal to pay for it the that's why.
Also, once you'v entered the code then your address becomes "Verified" and they credit your initial joining fee to your PayPal account.

Thanks you've reminded me to verify my account. I even amazed myself by being able to find the bank statement from when I started using Paypal :D

Also, if you receive money through paypal (i.e you sell stuff) then they ask you for your inside leg measurement and your mothers shoe size when you reach the magic £5k mark. Just to be sure you're not laundering the folding stuff.

... when you reach the magic £5k mark ...
 Are you talking from experience then?

untill you verifie its £50. then it depends on wat type of account you set up
and weather or not you pay for the service or use the free service for the total amount , credit cards also play a factor highr the credit limit higer the paypal account limit.

Amazing it happened to me yesterday, pain in the butt  have written snotty letter to paypal they sent a useless letter back so have sent a stronger letter this time . It is daft, that they dont let you know how close you are to the sending limmit., of all things i bought a snow board, its somthing ive always wanted to do , so after my 40th i just bought one ,that is if i get it now and hopefully this wont end up with bad feedback.

Like I said above, there should be no need for any delay as you already have the code on the bank statement from when you signed up to PayPal.
You've just got to try & find it! :?
