Title: Needing a Winch?
Post by: keithdixon on November 16, 2005, 08:06:28
I am looking to import some winches to the uk,

have got a price of $260 (guessing £160) each including all taxes except any uk taxes.

Does anyone know what taxes are going to be payable as it enters the uk?

AND

as i only want one, i need another 10 people who want a 9500lb winch (Will post spec later)

you would be better to make sure everything is clearly declared. If you try to sneak it through the authorities  make up the cost! they will then hammer you.I have paid import duty for eblag items than was maore that the cost-- i have also been lucky once in a while.
You also pay duty on shipping charges so make sure you take these into consideration.

intreged and interested. But depends on spec.

As to costs,

You'll need to add UK VAT onto the cost of the parts, paperwork and shipping.

A few questions

Make ?
Spec ?
Reliability Record ?

There are a lot of cheap winches around at present some better than others, I've heard a few horror stories.

Buyer Beware !

Don't forget warranty !   I've dealt with 2 people this week already who bought "bargain" winches and then had to shell out a ton more money because of get-outs in the warranty.    Buyer beware indeed.

I beleive that you should buy a quality item and 'go prepared' to spend that little bit extra.

its pays off in the long run, I reckon
