I recall some time ago that somebody asked the question as to whether there is a permanent (or ignition) live feed to the rear of a defender behind the lights.
does anybody know if there is? and if so what colour and where exactly is it?

I'm pretty sure that I noticed a purple wire at the back end of my 110, when I was looking for a wiring fault, which wasn't connected to anything else.
It would seem to be a spare permanently live and fused auxiliary feed. I have no idea which fuse it's connected to, or how much current it's safe to use.
It hides behind the blanking panel inside the body on the drivers side. That's the panel that is on top of the seat box at the level of the indicator, if that makes any sense.
I'd suggest having a look in there.

cheers - I shall take a peek

dave ,
There is a permanent feed to the rear - like wolfie say's it's a purple wire(quite a hefty one) but it may be tied up in the loom in the chassis.
Later model year 90's have a plug with this permanent feed and an earth already fitted (behind the o/s rear wiring pod on the inside)
This plug fits straight onto a aux socket (fag lighter) which you can then mount on the said pod.
Hope this helps.

p.s you got the cubby box fitted yet?
