Title: Automatic Gearbox oil change
Post by: bambamjj on November 16, 2005, 20:33:08
Has any one done an oil change on an Auto box?

Mine is really sluggish from cold  until it has been run for a good hour then it is nice and responsive, thought maybe it was due for a change.  Is it difficult to remove sump etc, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

i think you have to remove the cross member to get the sump off and then its just a case of undoing the bolts and dropping it off

If you are just doing an oil change then you don't need to take the sump off.  Just undo the drain plug ;-)

You only need to remove the sump if you are going to change the filter screen on the bottom of the control unit.

Just had mine done and aparently there is no drain plug!

And if you are changing the oil you really should do the strainer too (I had a new one fitted).

And yes the cross member does have to come off as well as the exhaust headers (not much fun on a V8 ), luckily mine came off without snapping any of the studs.

Big thanks to Clive and Steve at Bennington Land Rovers, to be honest I had considered doing it myself but when I discovered the amount of work involved I was happy to pay them to do it  :D
