I can't figure out how to adjust steerng pump belt?
As the steering has got heavy with the battery light coming on?
Thanks!!

I dont recall the 200Tdi belt sharing alternator and steering pump.
On my 200Tdi disco it is seperate. Strange that the Light should come on, and the steering get heavy. I would have a good poke about and see if the belts are still there, and the condition.
The alternator and Power steering are both adjustable. The alternator has a couple of bolts that will need slackening off, then using a lever bar, put slight force on it wawy (as in tightening the belt) and nip up the bolts. You should be able to twist the belt 90 degrees, and this is a good practice of adjustment for any belt.
The powersteering pump has a similar setup i believe. If you have any probs with anything, then your welcome to pop down to my place and i will be more than happy to help with your woes. I know its a bit of a journey, but you will kill lots of birds with one stone. Also if you have the bonnet, youll be down here anyway. :D

on the 200 the alternator is driven from the pas pump. i'm having the same trouble at the moment. cold starts are putting to much drain on the battery and what with running all the electrics (fan, lights, heater, windscreen etc) it seems the pas belt just wont grip enough when you try and do any heavy steering aswell as that lot
Both belts are brand new before anyone asks

Wayne! First i have to find out about that Bl**dy Injector Problem which only happend This Morning?
And find out if i will do any damage to the engine if i drive it?
As for the Steering Belt and Alternater Belts
The steering pump and water pump run of the main fanbelt? the steering pump pulley Is a Double Pulley which in turn runs the Alternater!
And the problem i can't figure out is:
The steering adjster pulley has about 4 or 5 more bolts through it as well as the adjuster bolt? Have i got to undo All of them?

Steve Mine Too! Had tufftee serviced back in July and had a new Cambelt Fitted as well as Steering pump belt and Alternater belt!

To both of you i would say that you need to inspect the pulleys. If you use the vehicle for off roading, then getting mud on the belts causes a Cutting paste effect on them. The belts get changed, but the pulleys dont.
On my 200Tdi disco the belts are seperate, but i do have a kenlowe fan fitted, so this may be different. Or perhaps im wrong. I cant remember now.
The old trick used to be to put a small (I mean small) amount of Brake fluid on ther belt to give it a bit more grip.
Have you used the correct belts? and are they genuine ones?
If the belt doesnt fit in the groove of the puleys correctly, then this could cause a problem.
I would firstly advise on changing the Power steering fluid.
Then make sure when you start you have everything possible turned off.

Nev. The bolts on the power steering pump are as follows. Three of them hold it to the bracket. On mounts it to the block, and the other is on the adjuster.
Does your pump have a small square cut out on the mounting plate. If so then this is to put a 3/8 drive knuckle bar in to adjust it with.
Just slacken the Adjuster bolt, and the ones holding it to the engine. The others should be left alone.

I checked my belts last night and they are tight enough! so i reckon as you say Wayne! Its the glazed affect on the Pulleys?
So the next thing is how to sort that out?
