Died Today,
Great Footballer, Drinker and Womaniser.
-
I raised a cup of afternoon tea. Top man, will be sadly missed.
-
Personally I think if he hadn't raised so many glasses maybe you wouldn't be toasting him now. It does irk a bit that he gets a liver transplant and then hits the bottle. I hope somebody else wasn't waiting for that liver.
-
alcoholism is actually a disease im pretty sure he would rather have stayed healthy just my thoughts
-
His name said it all BEST ; Forget the booze , womanising, Fame must be hard to handle, he really was the BEST player anyone has ever seen NO-ONE comes close , if you have ever played at any level then you will know that you cant train to be that good you are born a GENIUS, and when a player such as PELE says he was the BEST of all time you just have to believe him , THE GREATEST PLAYER OF ALL TIME ....RIP GEORGE.

how i feel on this topic isnt appropriote on a family forum,
sorry to hear he has died but if he hadnt drunk himslef into a grave i would have a lot more respect than what i do
-
Your not a Football fan then if you were you would have plenty of respect ,
-
Steady on folks.
-
Sorry, but I'm with Mike and David on this one.
Whilst he was a great footy player and famous, and he did suffer from some of kind of problem which lead him to the bottle, he was given a second chance, ahead of some other equally deserving soul, and he blew it.
Respect for what he achieved (the good bits), but very little sympathy for the outcome.

My sentiments exactly. Someone without a self-induced condition should have been given that liver. IMHO he only received it because of who he was/used to be.
And lets be realistic about this, the myth long ago outgrew the man. Lets face it - 11 years of 'proper' football 9 of playing for the second- rate teams that would put up with him. Followed by 22 years of living on the reputation of past glories.
Nothing against the bloke, but I'm sick of hearing about it.

Soz did I miss something..has he been ill?
-
Righty ho chaps, since this is clearly an emotive issue I'd like to say the following.
For reasons beyond our control a man has died, which is by definition a bad thing, death is never a laughing matter nor is it something to joke about regardless of the person that died.
I can see that there are a number of views about how he conducted his life, which are both the source of a great deal of emotion and strained feelings.
However, this sort of thing can rapidly descend into moral judgement and a tirade against the transplant system or whoever knows what else.
Tonight a human being is no longer alive, this will sadden some and leave others bewildered, either way, can we say no more about it ?

For reasons beyond our control Do you mean he didn't own a Landy?
Which by definition is a bad thing...Yes He's [!Expletive Deleted!] dead
I just loath the amount of time /media spent about this guy He was a great footballer Id just feel a bit happier if I knew the money spent trying to keep him alive kept more hosptal emergancy services funded

Thankfully we live in a country where our medical care is not decided by someone's value of our worth or how much we deserve it.
As datalas says... some respect for the family and the passing of a human being is requested.
-
apparently most of his healthcare was paid for privately by his son.
just thought I'd mention that bit.

Yes agree so our medical care is not decided by someones value of worth
[bollards] Shropshire s health care is I think £35 million in debt...
So Im 67 with a health issue or Im a 59 year old celebrity with media input...which will be favoured?

However, this sort of thing can rapidly descend into moral judgement and a tirade against the transplant system or whoever knows what else.
So I was wrong and it's decended into a tirade against the NHS, which incidently doesn't apply as his son paid for private treatment.
I'm not arguing that there isn't a discrepancy between how people are
treated, nor am I going to argue the moral issues regarding transplants.
I would argue that if there is a discrepancy, it's not caused by the doctors, nurses or anyone with direct contact with patients, they are doing their best under difficult circumstances.
I am however going to point out that my grandfather is in hospital and not expected to see Christmas, so regardless of your feelings towards the NHS (heaven knows I have some opinions on this matter myself) I was merely requesting that this not decend into a rant about anything.
Hence this topic is going to be locked, sorry if you don't agree, feel free to tell me off about it.
