is it tft/crt/lcd/plasma?
depending on how much you value your tv you can get it repaired sometimes.. if its the old fashioned crt its usually the guns inside that have gone..
incidentally i keep looking on
http://www.hotukdeals.com/
which lists deals of various types including tv's
worth a look
the other day you could get a ps one for 15 quid!

There is a superb littlle independant repair place in Bury St. Edmunds, our TV went t*ts up (28" widescreen Hitachi) and when most places wanted £ 50 callout I dropped it of to them and went back two days later armed with £ 25!

I have a dennon surround sound receiver amp which gave up the ghost not long after the warrenty ran out.
Took it to the nearest dennon repair center in manchaster, they wanted £45 to look at it then parts and labor. So far they have had it two months and still haven't fixed it.
They keep replacing parts then say that the ones they replaced didn't fix the fault and are waiting for more parts. So far these have been expensive bits like the PSU.
Will complain to dennon shouldn't take two months to repair an amp. :(

Goodmans, made in Turkey not worth fixing.
She wants a new Panasonic 28" integrated digital thingy....£450....
There goes my new bits for SJ....oh well

If I was you I'd, contact trading standards, they should tell you how you can get the TV repaired even when its outside the warranty period.
Good should last a resonable amout of time 25 months is not a resonable amount of time. If they wont repair TV, they should give you a discount on the upgrade.
-
As Colin says, goto trading standards as from their point of view warrenties are worthless as they will tell you an item must have a reasonable life expectance which will be related to what it is/cost etc.
I believe though cannot be sure that a large TV (think large is around 20" and over) should last approx six years but obviously TS will be able to guide you with what you can/need to do.
As stated above, they may not feel the value of the TV warrents full repair/replacement but it may get you a very favourable discount on a new one.

did see once that everything haD FIVE YEARS COVER BUT IF IT FAILED AFTER THE YEAR IT HAD TO BE PROVED BY YOURSELF THAT THE FAULT WAS A KNOWN ONE BY THE MANUFACTURER WITHIN ITS YEAR, OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT

My neighbour works on computer electronic repairs, his speciality was monitors before he diversified. A lot of the problems are from a small transformer and related components, he managed to fix a 5 year old goodmans 28", lasted another 2 years, then went again.
They are not made to last nowadays, not in the manufacturers interest, also the components are cheaper if they are sub standard
Sometime they can be done, depends on the repairer and components. He spent 6 months ordereing component for one tv, but still never got the right ones. That one finally had to finish up in the skip too, and it was not a cheap one either. No wonder people have a lot of accidents at home, with house insurance policies
