Hi, ive finally broken a cv... and i want to put stronger ones in! Ive heard that 110 CV's are meant to be tougher! But according to paddocks there are three different cv's fitted to 110's which one is the strongest?
I have a 200tdi 90 which is 10 spline so i assume the cv joint is a 23 spline one that i have!

Just beware of the relative lengths... you might need to change your stub axles and hubs too !

You might also have trouble with those fancy alloys... you need the earlier drive flanges which stick out a bit further :?

its ok, the cv thats broken is on a different landy to the one in my avatar! Its a 1991 200tdi, and it has the thick drive flanges....
Is AEU 2522 a landrover part number? or a paddocks one?
Are the 110 cvs longer than a 90's then?

That's the Land Rover part number.
The 90s and 110s of the time had the same part, mine runs on them. The AEU2522 has a longer outer shaft than some of the later CVs, so you would need to check.

Just another question, i was looking on land-rover-spares website, and there are severazl different cv joints for a 110 ranging in price from £46 to £100+
What is the difference?

Depends on what was listed. Most likely it is the manufacturer.
I'm going to stick my neck out a bit here... but you will most likely find that a GKN CV joint is a lot stronger than some of the 'non genuine' replacements.
There are some 'white box' parts about (i.e. cheaper than the Britpart parts) which frankly are appalling quality.

Hmmm, i had a look at those GKN CVs, but i cant really justify £320 on cv joints :?
Just noticed that both 90's and 110's use AEU 2522! Does that mean they are the same part? and therefor are the 110 ones not any stronger?
Just to clarify, i need Part number AEU 2522 for my 10 spline front axle?

ashcroft are developing a new stronger cv.not ready yet though i hear on the grapevine.

I've been running 'cheap as chips' ones from Bearmach - and reckon they are pretty good. Not quite as strong as the GKN's - but there's very little in it.
The one big advantage they have is they always break at the spline end (on the inside of the wheel drive flange. This is preferable to the CV itself breaking and filling the swivel with seal-eating shards of metal. In turn this means you can replace them quickly in the field.
I'd like to try some of the new Ashcroft ones (but they are an unknown quantity as yet, and likely to be expensive (sorry Dave!)) or the KAM CV's with fusible shafts - which seem a pretty good idea. The KAM fusible shafts can be replaced in a few mins and are very low cost.

AEU 2522 are the stronger cv's as fitted to early 110's. Be carefull if buying reconditioned ones as they are not always as good, but brand new genuine ones are loads of cash so you may aswell get some GKN ones!.

I have the Ashcroft ones from the initial test batch.
they are made from far superior materials and wel worth the ££ IMHO
as I hate changing CV's in the field.
