Why do so many plonkers sit in the middle lane on the motorway, these are the motorists the Police should target ,so blinkin annoyin, but there are so many of them why.......
-
I take it you've had a good journey home tonight?
-
Try sitting at 56 mph in truck, you cant use outside lane, and wouldnt dream of taking the inside lane.................
-
Have you tried going over the top in your truck,,,,,,,,,,,because thats how they make you feel, when you finally get by you look at them and they are totaly oblivious to what s going on around them.............
-
because being in the wrong lane is just blatenly dangerous and stupid, where as undertaking (which it causes) gets them a nice tasty fine :)

Its tough, but we're not aloud.
I know, I know.
I'm tempted too but sometimes you have to just keep smiling
:D
Then when you go past give them a good blast of your horns!!

You mean CLOD's (Centre Lane Owner Drivers)
It's because they are lazy and cant be bothered to look in their mirrors at the queue they form behind them
-
There used to be band called The Heathrow Flyers (truckers that make music) and they had some stickers made up saying Official member of the centre lane owners club.
Maybe we should get some new Mud Club versions knocked up?
-
May be a problem there jake as swearing,s not allowed on here i don,t think we,,ll really be able to get our feeling across enough!
-
and not just the middle lane club, its the twits who think sitting at 65-70 in the fast lane is sufficient when the other two lanes are clear and there is a queue behind to overtake
the amount ive seen undertake is great but what can you do!?
-
Their probally the same (expletive) that when you come up behind them on a motorcycle, in a traffic queue, won't move over a bit to let you pass.

Why do so many plonkers sit in the middle lane on the motorway,......
And there's hundreds more using front fog-lights inappropriately as some sort of signal as well
I think they're the new equivilant of the St Georges Cross flags (you must remember, this one)
-
and its the same types who realise at the last moment that their junction is coming up and will cut everyone up so they get in the slow lane in plenty of time
bunch of ar.....

Well here goes about my thoughts regarding undertaking.
If a line of traffic is stationary in the middle lane and you are in the left hand lane then can you undertake?.
If yes then if the middle lane is doing 3 MPH and your lane is doin 5MPH then can you undertake?.
If yes then at what speed can you no longer undertake??????.
Finally if a driver undertakes you then it is your fault because if there is room in the lane to your left to undertake then that is where YOU should be.
Sooty climbs down of hid soap box.
-
if you are in lines of traffic then you go with the flow
undertaking is classed as when you are behind someone slower, you move to a slower lane and go past him then go back in your original lane
thats what i thought it was anyway
-
hate these middle lane hogs too, often find durring the day that the vast majority are lady drivers, sorry ladies but it is true, I guess its kind of a comfort lane. Driving at night I find the signal sown in my avatar often shifts them.

'Comfort Lane' is one way of putting it ...
Personally, I put it down to downright laziness. I don't bother with trying to blast along (I drive a Diesel after all), and when I move into the middle lane to overtake a slower vehicle, these middle lane hoggers will quite happily sit behind me, even though though right-hand lane is empty ... Once I've moved out of the way, off they go, back up to their cruising speed.
IMHO it is an easy way of dealing with crowded motorways:
a) Join, expecting traffic already on the motorway to Give Way to you.
b) Select the Middle Lane as soon as possible.
c) Disengage Brain.
d) Only change lanes again once it's time to leave the motorway.
I'm sure that a lot of truckers and coach drivers would back me up on this one.
Plod definitely need to crack down on this ...
-
Plod on mtorway??
when do you see that these days??
Anyway, they are probably the same drivers [ and I use the term driver loosly ] that close the gap when I filter through stationary or very slow moving traffic on my bike [ ALL drivers on M6 may read this and wonder if I am talking about them !! ] I have even had drivers open their doors : so I can't get through..............And I have been known to loosen a few mirrors on my travels, Chops are a lot lower than normal bikes so my head is level with the drivers they get a fair shock when I get real close......
-
I have always understood it as you are not aloud to undertake if you are using it to your advantage ie going from a right hand lane undertake and then move back accross to other lanes.
However if you travel at a constant speed and undertake and stay in your lane i dont see why you cant do this as it does say in the highway code and somebody above said in a traffic jam you can under take.
-
Most people who sit in middle lane dont use their mirrors,If you are approaching these from behind and are forced to undertake you yake the chance of them pulling into the inside lane without checking if any thing is there...........BEWARE !!!!!!
Left hand mirror, whats that for ????
-
i always thought that if the person in the middle lane is doing less than the speed limit, you can undertake, as it is deemed that you are in slow moving traffic.
we've done this before too, on this thread (http://forums.mud-club.com/viewtopic.php?t=7900)
try driving in the inside lane in a small car. now that is dangerous. my polo sometimes gets stuck in teh ruts left by lorries, and suddenly i have very little control over my car.
ok, so i spend most of my time in the outside lane, cursing at slower people in front, but i think that the motorways should be properly maintained before expecting people to use the inside lane.
-
Dont have much trouble with people doing 50 in the middle lane when they see 44 ton of volvo globetrotter siting in there bumper with air horns blasting they soon get out of the way.

Muppet on the M60 the other day in his Rover 214 complete with cloth cap.
He's going slower than me in the inside lane so I move out to middle lane to overtake - he obviously doesnt want my coach in front of him so speeds up as I'm halfway past him, I drop back in behind him and he slows down to his original speed. This happens 3 or 4 times all the way up to the M61 north. Finally get passed him with the Nescafe coffee bean wave
