As some of you know, I have been without regular employment for some time now, and recently I've had several interviews which, sadly, have not paid off.
Today, I found out that I was not entitled to ANY benefits, in spite of 20 years NI contributions. :(bigcry):
A few weeks ago I saw a job ad which caught my eye; it was not exactly in my field, but what the heck, transferrable skills n all that. I Applied, and was suprised to be invited for interview.
Last week I had an interview that I thought was a dead cert ('scuse the pun) being in the 'old' line of work n that, but I didn't get it. :(bigcry):
I had a crisis of confidence, where was the point in trying for a job outside my area of expertise, if I couldn't get one in it?
I really wondered if there was any point in going to the interview, but I thought I'd give it a shot.
Interview was today, 1pm, it was approximately a 25 minute journey, so I left myself 45 minutes. Only to sit in a traffic jam on the bl@@dy M69 for 10 minutes.:(sulk):
Anyway, got through the traffic jam (caused by muppets who ignore cone countdown markers! :(sulk):
Anyway, no worries, still plenty of time, I follow the directions from AA Routefinder ( Yes, I have since heard about the motorway-avoiding route Via FRANCE!!! on top gear!)Needless to say, with the roadworks, diversions and all, I got lost! :(bigshock):
I called and told them what had happened, and they said to get there as soon as I could (I had begun to wonder if it was worth it by now!!) Anyway, I finally arrived, I was pleasantly suprised to find that the chairwoman on the interview panel was a mate from years ago, this was declared at the outset: no favouritism!!
I had to give a presentation, which went according to plan, then I was interviewed. It seemed to go well, but then, so have so many others before.
I had a call at about 4 O clock, offering me the job!!!:(contented):
So very soon, I shall be working at a womens' domestic violence refuge, it's going to be challenging, and I'm not expecting to wave any magic wands, but by gum, I'm going to have a damned good crack at it! :(contented):
PS My apologies to Paul and the rest of the Hinckley meet-up mob for missing last night, but on balance, I think it may just have been worth it!!:(contented):

Janie well done. Some times it hard after you have been knocked back a bit. All the very best, having met you a few times now i am sure you will absolutely thrive in your new job as will those you help

Congrats :D :D :D
Just be (sadly) prepared for the sh*tty, horrible scrote husbands/partners turning up.
We occasionally get them if a 'domestic' comes our way
I recommend a 6 D-cell Mag-Lite, y'know just in case the electric fails whilst they're in the premises.
But, if you trip over them & crack them on the head with it, it was too dark to see
-
Good Luck in your new job. =D>

Funny but I've found in the past it's the jobs you wonder why you applied/got an interview/if you really want that you end up getting, whereas the ones you know you can do standing on your head/really want you don't do so well.
Obviously someone has realised you're a very capable person as I imigine your new job will be 'challenging' to say the least.
J and I wish you the very best with it and hope to see you again sometime.
Well done
