Title: Selling on Ebay
Post by: TUFFTEE on December 08, 2005, 13:35:43
Don't you hate it when people don't read the Ad Properly? :x

Sold my front bumper on Eblag went for the start price of 9.99 in the ad was Local pickup only!
The bumper is in London and the Buyer is in Manchester! He pays for the bumper immediatly via paypal!  And says that he will get a courier to collect?
Then he emails me to say they won't collect?
Then this morning he phones and says that Royal mail will call this afternoon for it! Ok
Can i strip it down? ie take the end caps off and wrap it?  to make it look like it 1.5m in length? No Chance?Ok! :?
He puts the phone down and 10 mins later Royal mail turn up? :x
No its not ready! Ok we will call this afternoon ok?
We will see? :x
I still think it's too big for them? :x

Then the other item i sold My Pda Excellent! Made a slight profit too?
I Sent it via special delivery on Tuesday!
The damn thing turns up here this morning with a note saying Could'nt Deliver :x

This is all sounding like his problem, not yours.

You sold it with the correct instructions, he is now messing you about....

Did you get a good price for it? i.e. has he paid you enough so that you will put up with it?

As for the PDA:

Can you refund his money and tell him it's broken? or is that outside the rules (I've bought but never sold).

I will wait and see if royal mail turns up for it?
If they don't or if they refuse it due to being too big! ie they state a max of 1.5m and its about 1.8m then i will send him his money back and call it quits! :x

you could tell him that to package it up for courier will cost extra since the agreement was local pickup only and not part of the contract with ebay

Or do what i do, firstly in the ads i put that i will not accept couriers on the buyers behalf.  I got stung with this once before and it wont happen again!  I can tell ya!  Secondly you do not have to refund his money.  Tell him he has to collect the item as its not your place to ship it, if he kicks off ebay wont do anything!  They never do!  Why should you have to refund the money for something that is not your error?

Mods please dont delete this cos of the link, i am not advertising an auction, i am just using one of mine as an example of what i dont accept.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4596027782&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%3AIT&rd=1

You have the right to withhold legitimate expenses like packaging costs. Sounds to me like the costs might be £9.99

Just because the postie took it, they might still reject it at the sorting office and bring it back!

I sold a cable modem for a quid on eBay, and left myself out-of-pocket on the postage because I'd not worked it out carefully enough.  So my £1 profit went on the postage costs really.  It's annoying, isn't it.

for future reference you can send bumpers and stuff via http://www.parcel2go.com and pay them via paypal!  Its DHL's response to the Ebay phenomenon!  I have used it a couple of times to send range rover bumpers and stuff and its fine!  Well worth using in my book!

Trouble is!

Whenever i am selling! I always leave feedback as soon as the Buyer Pays!

If i am the Buyer! Then i only leave feedback As soon as the Goods Arrive?

Might not be the Best Policy? But it's Ok for Now!
