its just said on the news:
the numbers of people using buses have fallen, everywhere in the country, except London
i wonder why
could it be the fact:
wife and i can take my car into town (1mile) pay and park for 2hours and its still cheaper tha 2 adults catching the bus
maybe rather than taxing car drivers lets improve (all) public transport and make it cheaper (subidise it)
i almost sound like one of them tree ugger types

Why not scrap all the Buses? :x
I hate the Damn things Anyway:x !
And good ridence to the routemaster! 8)

I love the route master!!!!! Loosing a major part of history now!
You old scrooge you

they should make it appealing to use public transport
what appeal is there to sit in a cold bus full of chavs who wanna rob you or happy slap you
and then you pay for the privilage!

The buses in London are pretty good
Its £1.20 a fare and you can go anywhere one way on that
All buses have CCTV and Ive never felt that threatned on any of them, even the night bus but in London they are always busy and there have been plenty of bad incidents ranging from attacks to terrorism so no where is perfect

someone told me once that the buses round where i live are fantastic and they can get anywhere in the city really quickly. i laughed at them, then asked how long it took them to get to work over the other side of town, they replied "about 45 minutes"
i do the same distance, but in the other direction, in about 8
the person in question is now learning to drive, as they have seen the error in their ways.

The only time i get on one of those (expletive deleted ) Things is when i have'nt got any other choice?

Mate - I live in Yorkshire and commute over the Pennines to Lancashire to work every day.
There is no way I can get there by any form of public transport. Nearest way is by rail and that would take me the best part of 6 hours each way.
As far as I'm concerned it's drive or bust . . . . and then they sting me with extra tax for doing it in my only car . . . the Discovery :x
Public transport . . . . . not for me I'm afraid.

advantages of a car
1) I can have a cig whilst in there
2) It departs the terminal when I want it to.
3) It has only 2 stops on the route (unless I chose otherwise)
4) I dont need to carry a pocket full of change
5 I dont have to listen to some deaf chavs MP3 player
6) I dont have to listen to half a dozen peoples conversations on the mobile
7) The only body odour I have to put up with is my own
8) I dont have to play bucking broncos moving around on a moving platform just to make sure the drongo driver stops where he is supposed to.
Advantages of a bus
errr .... nope you got me there
-
the busses round my way stop running at 7pm.
so if you want to go into town youv'e had it.
car all the way.
can't beat them.

Well, I'm no great fan of buses, but let's see:
1) Takes up about the space of 3 4x4s on the road but can hold 73 passengers - so that's at least 3 times as many passengers per unit of road
2) Does 6mpg but can, er, hold 73 passengers, that's about 2-3 times as economical per passenger as a 4x4
I picked 4x4s because they have large passenger capacities in general. A "normal" car with 4 passengers would skew the figures more in favour of the bus, if anything.
That's not to say I ever take buses, but I do see a few benefits of the concept :)
Let's imagine getting rid of buses for a moment. Assume 50 passengers per bus. Now let's assume they all decant into cars and sit 2-up (optimistically). So that's 25 cars. Would you rather be vying at the traffic lights with one bus or 25 cars?

.......buses.......can hold 73 passengers
Any there lies the problem with the UK, the CAN hold 73 passengers, but through bad service, high prices, bad times etc they quite often hold about 3 (including the driver)

when i was younger i lived 8 miles from school the bus to school/only bus came at 7:20 in the morning(still does now) who knows a child who wants to leave for school an hour and ahalf before school needed to? my kind parents saw the logic and from then on in we would leave at 20 to 9 and still beat the bus !! but it gets worse cos if you missed the bus that left school at 3 - not hard when sir wants "a word in my shell like" then i was stuffed i eaver walked 8 miles on the road cos their aint no footpaths which took about 2 hours or i waited for one of my parents to pick me up at about 6 ish.
but my problems with public transport dont end their i then went to college and had to catch a bus at 6 in the morning to get the 25 miles to college by 9 ! after afew months my father understood the logic and bought me a moped so i started leaving at 8:20 which seemed reasanable to me (exept i wiped the moped out on the 3rd day - drovew over an audi quattro - that was expensive - ended up on buses again for about 3 weeks) and that was where my affair with buses ended,
or so i thought cos i went and did a silly thing and fell in love with some one on the isle of wight and it was to expensive to take the car over so i was stuck with catching a passenger ferry (£15 a time) and then catching a bus (£2 or 3 miles) in the end i decided it would be cheaper and less stressfull to marry her !! (how ingnorant was i  im now skint and and harrased !?!)
as my final word i would like to say i hate buses (unless im driving cos thats fun) and as for trains !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Furry muff, but I was also going on the basis that 4x4s CAN hold 7 or even 12 passengers, whereas you most often see them with one.

I agree, it's the same with all private transport, most are driven/riden by one or at a push 2. What I was trying to infer, was that buses would be a great idea for freeing up the roads (conjestion, pollution etc) except that they are not utilised properly for various reasons.
In Sweden or Switzerland (I think) the trains are cheap and efficient and always run on time, and so get used lots....... the benfit they have is government funding which our buses/trains don't get.

I dont drink much ... (3-4 pints a month?) so thats not an issue. The main reason for that is so I dont have to get on a mobile toilet being used as a communal phone box.

Wouldnt it be great if everybody but me used the bus.
I work 6 miles away from home. To get there by public transport (for 8.45) I would have to leave at 6.15. That makes for 5 hours per day traveling (both ways). Thats 1 day per week traveling or a month and a half per year !!!!
Oh yeah, the drive takes me 20 mins one way or just over 3 hours per week, 12 hours per month or 6 days per year. Thats a saving of 48 days per year of my life :!:
I have better things to do with my life. :P
