Title: v8 air intake move
Post by: bambamjj on December 09, 2005, 14:18:35
Hi all

i have a round type air filter box on my V8.  Looking to move it, possible move the washer bottle and turn it around facing down slightly to avoid any accidental water ingress.

I know i should fit a snorkel but want to spend money on other things and have no intention of drowning my Disco, (Yet).

Any ideas anyone or has anyone done it?

snorkel really is the best way to go.

For around 160 snorkel notes, its not worth the hassle of relocation and moving the washing bottle. Unless you  have plans to add other items in those areas as well.

hasnt someone made a snorkel out of some drainpipe on here ? I thought it looked fairly good and couldn't have cost too much.

I also remember from when I had a ford probe everyone used to sing the praises of "cold air intake mods" which was basically the intake moved from above the rad to the side of the engine really low down.  Apparently you could get an extra few BHP on a probe by doing it, not sure what affect if any on a disco though.

Can you weld? if so blank the front of the airbox and make an alternative inlet on the side, facing backwards.

yes i know i should be patient and get a snorkel  , will have to do that, you lot on here always talk sense, Which is a good thing.

At the moment i am running it with out the "Funnel" but with the filter in place and she runs, excelerates and responds like a dream from cold to hot running..

As quoted by Peter above (Sorry dont know how to do the little white box with text quote) it really does work have done this on a 2.0 Focus and even in hot weather with high humidity it makes a massive difference but obviously for a disco it is not practical long term.

Snorkel it is then, Thanks everyone for your help  :) .
