No they are not on fire just yet but in the words of Robbie Williams - "I know it's coming, there's gonna be violence"!

On my 1986 V8 one of the rear lights does not work either with the headlamps or as a brake light. Bulb is fine. Then I realise my spots are n't working either. Furthermore, I know that if it rains in the wrong direction my indicators stop working. Any of you budding autoelectricians got any ideas (full re-wire not an option this close to Xmas!!).

So today I check the fuses and there is just one that is blown. I change that and I cannot find any improvement.

Next thing I work out that if I push the indicator stork forward without the lights being on then instead of getting beam I just get drivers side headlamp on by itself! Or is that normal?? If so, what's it all about?

And another thing - why can't I buy a (decent) book on autoelectrics from Amazon?

First thing I would check is are all the earth locations are good and clean.

If the indicator stalks are anything like the rrc's and series 3s, they are a pig for faults, sounds like you need help there, shame you aren't closer too me :?

There are so many variables on what the problem(s) could be

The easiest thing to do is get a cheap meter from Maplins which will do 12v and do simple testing. If you get one lead of the meter on the end of the wire you want (say for example the brake light) and th epther lead of the meter to a good known earth, you then need someone to press the brake pedal for you.

If the switch and wiring is good to the end of the wire you will see a reading on  the meter, it is then probably an earth which is faulty and will need to be run to a new clean position.

If this is too techie for you (dont mean that to sound awful but I dont know yer skills m8), you will need to get to someone who can help a bit more I'm afraid

You could try parking it a different way, so it doesnt rain on the spot where the indicators give up   :lol:  :lol:

i had a similar problem a few months ago - turned out to be the stalks themselves - had them replaced and everything is hunkey dory again  :D  :D
