And HH is only the fifth biggest oil terminal in the UK. Hate to think what would happen if Kingbury or Ellesmere went up.

Wished it hadn't happened at all and hope this isn't the terrorists next move as one of the suspicions is    :(  :(

If it is you can wave goodbye to any civil liberties we have left.  It'll be a solution which would make orwell look like an optimist :?

It's the panic buying of fuel that's going to affect us up here.

Just been watching Sky & News 24, glad to see no one has died in this, and it seems to have been an accident rather than terrorist attack or plane crash.

News 24 have just shown aerial footage of the site and it looks a real mess, some of the tanks that aren't on fire have been distorted by the blast and the buildings within the site look like a scene from a WWII film.

You can now see the smoke cloud on the Met Office (http://www.meto.gov.uk/satpics/latest_uk_vis.html) satellite image!  :?

I'd be more worried about the shortage of wines and sprites, as the Waverely Wines depot next door looks wrecked.

My SWMBO is SUPPOSED to be getting her brand new Suzuki Jimny delivered to the N-East where we live on Tues/Wed this week.  Can anyone tell me if her garage is anyway near the fire?.  It's ANTHONY BETTS, London Rd. Hemmel Hemstead.  I know what oil fumes can do to paintwork.--Cheers--Cogs

we're miles from HEMEL but BP have decided to put their price per litre up by 3pence,this is probably due to their christmas spirit and not their greedy nature by profiting on disaster and clawing what they can from the motorists.
the question that anyone should ask themselves is....

will they put the price down again when the fire is out :?:

Said on the news was only petrol and aviation fuel, but I bet diesel will go up more than these if they do raise the prices

I've conducted some experiments this evening. I tried dropping maches into the wifes car petrol tank. It didn't ignite. Then I tried a blow torch across the petrol filler pipe. It ignited but was easy to extinguish with a damp tea towel.

Then I tried a bit of C4 under the tank. That did the trick. The explosion was heard three streets away by a dutchman.

Conclusion .... it must have been done on purpose, and I've got some explaining to do on the insurance claim form.

Cogs, London Road is on the other side of Hemel to Buncefield so there should be no worries about the car being damaged by the explosions, but as for the black cr4p falling from the sky...........

Truly amazing nobody has been killed. And only 2 seriously injured. We must be thankful for small mercies.

The pictures are astonishing. Looks like something out of a Hollywood movie. The news reports come across like the services are not too worried by it. Just let it burn for a while to get rid of some of the fuel and give time to gather the relevant equipment. Then go in and foam it down. I'm sure it's a hell of a lot more difficult than that, but it does give an impressive sense of expertise. This can only be a great help to reduce peoples fear and hopefully reduce the panic buying problem.

Panic buying is, of course, self fueled (if you'll excuse the pun). Those that rush out and brim the tank are causing the shortage. The fuel stations will run out because they cannot change their refill shedules. Then those that did panic buy say that their approach was justified because the petrol station has run out!

Im amazing at the photos too.  Some you would have paid millions to computer generate for the latest movie. Truely awesome images.

Quite interested in what they say the cause was.  The security gaurd said he smelt the fumes moments before he was catapulted.

Like Old Joe & Turtle's Mrs, we were woken up too. We have a Victorian house with sash windows and they sounded like the glass was coming out. The wife thought someone had sledgehammered down the front door.

Strange thing tho, all around MK last week there were whispers ... "stay out of the city on sunday 11th, somethings going to happen" Spooky eh? It's the first thing I said the the wife, someones blown up the shopping centre, just like they said. Not quite but a very curious coincidence.

I hate people crying terror as much as the next man, but I was round a friend's yesterday morning and his mum said her sister is very high up at Shell oil and they have been on standby all week as last week some nutter told everyone to go out and bring down the west by targeting their oil refineries, The media are being surprisingly controlled and hush hush on this one. I would be expecting many more pointing fingers and speculative articles.

hi all i live about half a mile from the blast sight but have only just managed to get the computer back i was in winchester at the time and came home immediatly my parents thought the world was ending the loft hatch fell out of the cieling and the airing cupboard door blew open but no windows broken! I have been up as close to the site as you can get the last three nights and it is absolutley awsome! two mates of mine are police men and they say it looks like a war zone total devistation!

I did get to put the landy to good use though, sky news had there cherry picker stuck on the grasss so i pulled them off!

My girlfriends dad is a tanker driver at the depot but had swapped his shift for that morning thankfully, as soon as he heard the bang he knew it was the terminall, his truck and everything in it have been blown up but no-one was hurt and that is all that matters. just have to wait and see how long the clear up takes
