Post by: Bush Tucker Man on December 16, 2005, 15:22:12
Just bought this book (as discussed a few weeks ago, but can't find the thread) inWakefiel.
I'll let you know how it is & whether it's worth chasing it down

First Overland (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/1904955142/qid=1134746516/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_10_1/203-4856011-3679961)

That's when I've finished a quite funny book;
The World According To...... (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0141017899/qid=1134746595/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_10_1/203-4856011-3679961)

(Oh, & the new edition of 'Old Glory')

Haven't read it yet & it's out in the Discovery, so I'm not going out for it. But, during a 'quick-flick' at the till, I'm sure it said that it's being finished.

Buy your own copy you tight Scot sod :lol:  :lol:  :wink:

The engines are still 'in-limbo', they've been removed to suitable storage with a family friend, but Jack & Roger are supposed to be receiving them at some point

My late mother (Dulcie Hollindale) and 2 other women did much the same trip via Series II about 5 years afterwards.  I'm still trying to track down her diaries and photos with the idea of getting some sort of a website together documenting their adventure.  Mum had always meant to write a book after she retired bu unfortunately she passed away before she could accomplish this, and unless somebody can identify the others on the trip I have no way of knowing who they were in order to contact them for information.

Right. I have the requisite edition in front of me.
Rough draft  from' Old Glory' magazine (January 2006)
It seems that some of the neighbours wanted it filling in, others (backed by 'Bolton Civic Trust' & the 'Mines Rescue Service') got a petition together & the Council conceded defeat.
It can stay =D>  =D>

Sheila Dibnah is delighted & states that access will be granted by special invitation only (polite letters asking nicely? - my words)

The engines; Betsy (his Aveling & Porter roller) & the Aveling convertible (used in the 'Made In Britain' series)  are in winter storage for routine maintenance

The will is still not fully settled, as (undiscolsed) aspects are still to be decided upon.

I hope everything gets resolved in a manner which Fred would have been happy with.  I had a lot of respect for theman, he seemed to live his life by his own rules.

I met him once when he was supposed to be taking down a chimney on Canvey island, but gravity beat him to it.  He took out a little too much brickwork and down it came.  Still landed in exactly the right place though.
