You could always use Google Talk instead - or use the Fire client which can address both (plus AIM, etc too).

I started using Google Talk because I found that MSN Messenger was randomly throwing away lines from conversations;  pretty dismal behaviour, for an instant messaging program.  It was leading to some very awkward and confusing discussions.

So if bloody Microsoft can't write IM software which works, I'll use Google's instead.  Simple.  And I've not yet had Google Talk go offline once.
