Title: Jate Rings on a series?
Post by: MattW on December 21, 2005, 03:17:32
I just bought a pair of Jate rings to fit to the front of my S3 but I guess from looking that the mounting points where you would normally fit these on a defender or discovery are not available on the series chassis - where is best to fit them? I could fit them on the bolt fixing the front of the leaf springs to the chassis is this a good idea?

thanks
Matt

the place you suggested to put them is where I read somewhere you should attatch a tow rope for recovery so see no reason why not but I am no expert!

Possible, but you have to wind the nuts up tight on the hangers so they wont be able to swing

Are jate rings for recovery? I have never been exactly sure what they do. If for recovery I simply use the D shaped eyelets on the bumper, they have got me out of situations.

For the front you are better off using the D rings that can bolt onto the top of the bumper using the bolts that hold the bumper to the front of the chassis.

For the rear you can use the spring hangers with no problem, not sure about doing this on the front though.

You can hook round the hangers on the front but not being the swinging end the rope does have a habit of trapping in it

Ideally for a series truck you should be using D-rings

Make sure the jate rings are internally sleeved in the chassis.  If they arnet, you'll put excess stress on the jate rings and the chassis.  Not something you want to do with recovery!!!
