Love em or hate em, they are cheap!
..but is that cheap and nasty? my dad wont have them on his car full stop (following an incident with his cortina, ended up looking like a new micra following a blow out)
mate ran them on the skipwagon down to the threads and swears by them.
i`m open minded and looking at gettin a set for the truck.
some people use them for off road only, some run them all the time, some wont fit em, whats your view?

not sure if they are any good or not but would rather not take the risk had one blow out on my first car (not a re mould) but dont want to risk it

Purely my own personal opinions but... I ran Colway AT's on the Disco for about a year ~ 10k-ish miles round town motorway etc etc, no problems at all other than a puncture on one.
I've had more trouble with 'normal' tyres :evil:

Had a set of Colway MT's on me last disco, couldnt fault them in anyway! People say they are weaker than normal tyres, i think this is an urban myth. They are now legally made to the same standards as normal tyres as the law changed on tyre safety!

I run Colway MT's on my steel rims for most of the time and then change to Colway AT's on the Alloys when i go back to sea, the wife doesnt like the noise of the MT's
They are excellent offroad and half the price of BFG's
They got my vote

WELL.......with my ongoing saga with the "bears toe nails" from that well known Rodeo company ,they have put me off of using remoulds ever again...................I have had a very BAD experience, yet tobe resolved...................

Whislt I'm sure remolds have their place there have been concerns recently about the quality of such tyres (yes, the tread part is great, but what about the carcass itself?). :-k
I run BFG MTs. I've done over forty thousand miles on one set and they still have more to give. Plenty more to give. Good on tarmac, good in the dirt. Yes, they're more expensive than a good remold but look how long they can last.
Will I get 60000 miles out of a remold? I've to see a set that will (without buying a lorry tyre!). :wink:
Interestingly, a lot of the larger logistics companies no longer buy remolds as they are considered a false economy, citing shorter life, greater failure rates, lower performance and higher fuel consumption (the big killer in the HGV game).
I'd run remolds on the racer, no doubt, because I'm not worried about tyre life (they're a conumable). But on my road car? No. First life every time.
Just my 2ds worths!

if i had a range or disco capable of high speed, i wouldnt have remoulds, but on my diesel series 3 that only does 55mph flat out, i'm buy some remoulds when i need new tyres
unless i can get new ones for a similar price

on anything fast then no.... but on a old landy when five good tyres would cost more than the bloody thing in 1st placed there the best thing going :)

I have used Colway and Greenway tyres for a number of years now,they are made to the same standards as new tyres since the law change 4 yr ago , most colways are made on Michelin carcasses -there are car road rally teams that use them -at silly speads and punishing terain,some (NEW) tyres such as Camacs arent as good off road as Colways , I use them on my 90 and Greenways on my Disco -NEVER EVER had a problem ,Also used Bronco Rough-riders BFG copy but self clean better than BFG and do compareable milages BUT 1/3 the price , LOVE EM ,

I won't touch them. They are the only thing between me and the tarmac, and I've seen more evidence of failures / premature wear in remoulds than I have on new tyres.
Give me a good quality new tyre every time.

i use Colway MT's on my Disco,done about 3000miles upto now ples another couple of thousand when they were on the series 3.Though i probably wouldn't want them on if i was using it every day at motorway speeds, for my use they are fine and at motorway speeds had no problem!!The plus side is that as i use it mainly for off roading i'd sooner slash/ruin a tyre costing £45 than £100+.
As others have said i believe they are well made now and have to meet stringent tests now(not all admittedly).
At the end of the day the decision is yours and the bank managers :wink:

I run Colway A/T's (in a 235/70 size) on the Discovery & have zilch, zip, zero problems with them in the (about) 27,000miles they've fitted.
Admittedly I've had one new tyre, but that was due to it puncturing on the very confluence of the tread/sidewall; thus not considered a safe repair.
They've coped with everything from clay, rocks, mud, motorways, (admittedly I don't often do more than 60mph) towing both the BWSOW & Ifor-Williams, a 16foot
transporter trailer.
Good road manners, with very little noise & good levels of grip.
I had a set of the Bronco M/T's (235/85's) on my 110Tdi & they were beyond reproach (even at 80mph on Welsh mountain roads, near Sweet Lamb)
They only let me down enough to seriously worry me once. Pendine Sands (before the vehicular ban) when it bogged 3mils up the beach, just below the high-tide mark & the tide coming in :(scared):

Some opinions seem to focus on "cheap to replace if damaged" you have still got to get to where you are offroading . Also if you like rocks like the peak district a quality tyre is probably going to withstand more so it may well be faulse economy using cheap tyres , BUT everybody has there own choice.I had nothing against remoulds until I had a near life threating incident with the "bears toenails" hence never again will I compromise my safety for the sake of a few quid, ............4 x bears toe nails on rims £530.00 5 x BFG m/ts on rims £630.00 .. which is the best deal ?

Wouldn't use remoulds of a brand i didn't know but the quality remoulds are fine as already stated.

:D :(bigsmoke): put a set of bfg muds on and forget just check preasure regulary or for realy good high speed and extra road grip bfg all terrains i run both on disco and 90 wouldent touch anythink else :(bigsmoke):its your life dude

IMO remoulds are fine for off road (as other have mentioned it's not a total financial disaster if you spike one). Our roads here have an inferior surface to the UK and remoulds just don't seem to last on road - any money saving is negated by their very reduced lifespan.
When I use remoulds I make sure the whole set are remoulded onto identical casings - otherwise problems with differing circumfernces/contact patches seem to result.

have got machos on my 90 , cant go fast enough to worry , wouldnt have them on my main car though.

I ran a set of Bronco 4X4 Mud Terrain remoulds (actually made by Technic Tyres http://www.technictyre.co.uk/ ) and to be honest I think they were fine for off-roading but wore just too quickly on-road.
One tyre on the set also wore about three times as fast as the others- no matter which corner I put it on! So after less than 20,000Km I was left with one bald tyre and three with 10mm of tread (starting from 25mm depth....). So draw your own conclusions on the process quality control from that!
The replacement tyres I put on were General Grabber MT's and seem to have barely worn in 10,000Km. The Yokohama Geolander AT's I had before that for 20,000Km are still very good.
I tried re-moulds but won't buy them again. My advice would be to give one of the main 4x4 tyre distrubuters (Southam Tyres http://www.4x4-tyres.co.uk/ 01926 813510 ) a ring and see if they'll do you a deal on a set of 5 BFG's or Grabbers.

I've got 235/75/16 colways on my Disco with not one problem, tows the 'van( all over U.K & France) been laning with them & spent easter extracting stuck cars & caravans off a very,very wet field(swamp!)
Now if you want to see scary, you should see some of the returns I've seen at a local tyre wholesalers, they weren't remould but expensive new tyres from respected manufacturers!!!
I think the horror stories stem from the days of retreads(just a new tread bonded on an old carcass) rather than a remould where the full carcass is completely covered in new rubber as per a "new" tyre.
So far 2 years on & 16,000 miles on theres no perceptible wear & they are still spot on.
P.S aren't Broncos retreads? :shock:

I recon at least 50% of us use Remoulds & 40% of them are Colways, Either A/T or M/T's. I cannot fault them in 20 years so far.

i work with tyres for a living.the main questions concerning remould tyres is who's casing has been used and how many times has the tyre been remoulded.some companies only use michelin 1st life cases(michein tyre,first time as a remould)other companies are not as perticular.some tyre casings are not suitable for remoulding.
i use bfg's on diesel but i can find no fault with remoulds from technic and have fitted many sets for people to use on their motors.the bonding between casing and tread is good and the amount of weight that has to be added to balance the wheel is not an obseen amount

Well the bears toe nails are made by them,and the weight on each wheel was very obscene according to the appointed tyre expert,I cant remeber the exact weights because trading standards have them at present .

Sorry but I'm a keep them for off road type of person. I keep saying it, tyres are designed to last one lifetime, not 2 so remoulds are living on borrowed time. I don't care what anyone says, a tyre manufacturer will not compromise the performance of his product just so that another manufacturer (competitor) can re-use the product and sell an alternative.

Personal experience, I use them they are fine. I drive over 2000 miles a week and have had many a blow out etc.
I have NEVER had a remould blowout. I have had a few shed their tread but the only blown tyres I have ever had have always been new ones
The attached pic is what normally happens with remoulds, though I would still use them on the Land Rovers. If however I ran faster vehicles then I'd have second thoughts.

This is a very good point, my spare mud is now a 235/85R16, the size I want, not what's avaialable. 3 ply sidewall (not a lottery like buying remoulds) decent tread, if not as open as the BFGs. £55 inc, delivered! It's not worth buying remoulds based on the cost. The one saving grace is the smugness of recycling, it's very eco-freindly.
For a road car though I don't think it's enough payback for all the compromises. Buy 4 remoulded tyres and they could all be different makes!
