Title: Door panel removal to fix window
Post by: tenpolequint on December 22, 2005, 00:56:27
Can anyone give me a run down of removing the door panel on a earlt disco Mpi. It is not mine so I would not want to ruin anything using excessive force. There is meant to be something wrong with the electric windows on the passenger side. He said its out of the runner and won't open properly or something.

under the grab handle theres 2 large crosshead screws, undo these and remove handle.

The door opener has one screw, pull the handle out as if to open the door undo the screw and remove the backing plate.

The storage bin at the bottom is screwed to the panel so you leave that attached.

I have electric windows so no regulator handle to remove.

The panel itself is held on with about 20 plastic lugs.  If you have Xray vision you can see where these are if not like me I just yank the bottom of the panel outwards starting at the bottom then recover the lugs afterwards.  Theres a tool you can get from halfords which helps in removing the lugs but again, you need x ray vision to tell where they are.

Once you have  pulled the panel away from the door you then lift it to clear the door lock tab on top.  Dont forget to disconnect the speaker wires.

And if it's owt like mine, before you start the job, don't forget to go out and get a bag of those nasty little 'snap fastners' that hold the trim in place . . . . . . since most of them usually break during the process of removal.

Which will mostly snap and not be useable again save but 2 or 3! BTDT!
Just be careful - a flat bladed screwdriver if you have nothing else and try and carefully prise the door card away from the door
