Title: Noisy up front!!
Post by: Roverland on December 24, 2005, 20:20:01
Hi dudes,

When Im in 2wd my series 3 runs lovely but when in 4wd Hi there is a loud rumbling noise coming from the front axle area. This does not seem to be apperent in low ratio.

Any ideas before i start stripping the whole lot down.

Cheers

first thing to look at is your propshaft
do you have freewheel hubs?

the difference between hi and low could just be the difference in speed
because everything is running slower in low, you might not hear it

Yep got free wheeling hubs, makes noise when these are in either position. I have noticed that the prop can turn at least a 1/t turn and moves up and down slightly to!

Yep agreed sounds like it

got to be the favourite place to start, drop th eprop off and have a good check off the vehicle on both the u/j's, also try the flanges on the diff and transfer box while you have the prop seperate
