Is there any way of getting a non landrover radio/cd player to fit in a discovery 1 ? I have a kenwood mask which, although I have tried for hours, still has to stick out of the hole by at least 3 inches. It has quite a large ISO connector at the rear and the just isnt any room.
Any suggestions greatly received.

All non LR stereos stick out a coulpe of inches on 200 series dash boards.
You have a 3 alternatives.
1. Buy a shallower (is that a word?) stereo
2. move the stereo to a new position (ie build a box for it on top of the dash + it wont get so hot up there)
3. buy a 300 series. Plenty of room for new stereo's in them.

1. thought of that but they are all a standard size nowadays
2. ooooh I could also put a sign "steal me now !" on it
3. I love my disco 1 and the newer the disco the more afraid of breaking it I would become.
Thanks though, I will have a rethink, see if I can move it elsewhere.

You can get most makes in if you take out the console.
Fit the radio to the console and then tuck the wiring off to the side or up behind the heater controls panel.
It means the end of the CD/Radio is resting on the rubber matting but it can be pushed back and screwed back down.

I have recently changed to a Pioneer CD/ Radio in my 200Tdi. It fitted in fairly easy by running the wire harness from the radio up to the passanger side of the console and sitting the ISO connector tight up into the console on top of the rear passaenger heater pipe.

ive got my alpine cd player to fit i took the 2 screws out that hold the centre console in place, then spent a bit of time getting the wires tucked up in what space is left around it and ive got the extra leads that go to my amp and sub :D . joe

i have a kenwood fitted in mine after my sony was stolen. ...it was quite a job to get it to fit. i ended up tucking all the wiring out the way at the sides and then pushing the unit in. took a few tries but it can be done

is this where the grinder comes in useful?

You can fit a radio into a discovery, even a nice mp3 cd player one...
granted, it took me two and a half hours :( but it fitted, complete with wiring harness converter.

Got an mp3 player radio in the 200, the thing goes almost all the way down, bout 1/4" from bottom but looks ok, tight fit though, it all in the routing of the wiring though, although it gets pretty warm in the enclosed area with 2 heater pipes running to the back down either side of the thing

I had a new mp3 player for xmas and mine wont fit either so after I sorted the wiring out (another story)I made a "box" out of plastic so the player still sticks out but doesnt look stupid it actually looks pretty good and it means I dont have to shove in right in to the back because if yiu look on the back of most cd players there is a ribbed metal affair which is a cooling thingy and if this gets too hot you can say ta-ra to your cd player

My Sony stuck out about a 1/4 of an inch,so i made a shroud out of some 1''x1/2'' timber and painted it to the colour of the trim.-Andy.
