Has anyone changer the heater unit including the hoses to the engine? V8 woudl be nice...any tips?? How long to do?

i am going to be undertaking the challenge of changing the heater motor in my 200tdi as soon as it arrives from paddocks. i am doing the mac4x4 in march and i dont much fancey doing it without any heat  :wink:

mmhh, almost been tempted to do it. Mine sqeaks when it is on the lowest speed, although the heater does work. I bought one from ebay some months ago with the intention of changing it before winter, but found it far easier to always use number 2 as the lowest speed..... much easier than changing it.

I will watch the post with interest though ;)

i've done it on a rangie which is more or less the same and its a pig of a job, you need to take the dash out ideally and getting to the pipes on the back of it are a sod. my rangie at the moment hasnt got a 1 speed so i just use 2 instead even though i've got a spare complete heater in the garage

Mine squeaks, rattles and whines.  I however invested in the land rover service tool ! when it does it I hit the thing with the service tool and it shuts up and works fine.

I can live without a heater, I can wear a coat.  Its the air-con I cant do without.  I would rather be absolutely frozen to the point of unconsciousness than be too hot.  even if it does mean reducing the fuel consumption to 5 mpg !

its either one of my hoses split ot the matrix broke - so i need to take it out and replace the hoses anyway. They are on their way!
I cant live without the heater, in Derbyshire on Thurs i had ice forming inside the car...not good. I have loads of kit, ask anyone who knows me, but hat gloves and down jacket is just too much!

Looks like a common fault, I have a good heater but no motor, I asked about this earlier, it seems a straight forward operation :?

But not sure if you can actually do it without phsically removing the dash, or by raising it up high enough to do the job

If you problem is only motor and you still have heat coming through at speed, you may be able to sort the problem out by accessing the switch controls on the consol, pop off the centre console round the sticks, and then you can release the heater control unit, and check the wiring feeds in and out, it may be a switch problem, better than ripping the whole lot out for a bad switch

Looking at the motor unit in the matrix it is only held in with 3 screws and two wires on the motor body, its just a case of pulling the thing back out round the steering column and pedals, not being any good at limbo, I havn't attempted it yet

Just to warn you the inertia switch is located behind there as well as a lot of the loom/ relays.

Its a dash out job, no if's or buts, done it twice, allow a FULL day the first time, lube the motors bearings with conductive oil whilst your at it as they carry the current to make it work, squealing motor = dry bearings pitting and becoming none conductive BTDT!

i have to do mine after palying on salisbury plain. it stopped working after going through a rather deep puddle. i had water coming through on to my feet. so me thinks the motor may never actully work again. it was working fine before hand but something must have disliked the muddy water.  :cry:
checked the fuse ect but still nowt. i have a new motor on order from paddocks. im really really not looking forward to fitting it before the mac4x4 challenge.  :(
i have heat coming through when moving but it stops when i stop.

I was thinking of putting an auxiliary blower system in, to blow air into the intake, but its buried up the top of the engine bay

Like the series vehicles have

oh god.....it looks like im gonna have to do my heater motor now.....i have a new one here from paddocks now. i am quite worried about strippin the dash i out i have to admit,. really really not looking forward to it one little bit. but as the mac4x4 is in march i know im gonna have to do it before then.....

any one local who is good with spanners fancey givin me a hand  :lol:
