Upon discussing the cover for the new Defender with the insurers (Adrian Flux) they said they (or the actual insurer) wanted a covering letter stating that the vehicle would not be used in a 'Hire & Reward'capacity, due to its seating & (presumably?) classification as a mini-bus.
Has anyone else had to do this, or are Adrian Flux talking rubbish?

When I took my insurance out with AF about 18 months ago they were fine. I had 9 seats then and they never asked that question. They were even ok with my non-certified LPG system - although it was installed by a CORGI approved gas fitter.
In my experience to-date I think they are a good company (although I've had no reason to claim yet) but it could depend on who they are representing?
Other people on here seem to like the NFU.

I have heard of it from a friend that bought a pickup, but only insured it for personal use. They wanted a letter stating that the vehicle would not under any circumstances be used for business use. Which seemed fair enough as you can see where they're coming from. As you know mine is 9 seats, and I've never been asked to write such a letter, but I don't see the harm in it.

Odd, I've just bought a 110 CSW and insured it through Adrian Flux - I wasn't asked to make any such statement. I've insured my Discovery through them for a number of years and always received good service and competitive premiums. They are the only broker I've found which can offer a policy that includes off-road cover.

got all sorts of silly options (including mods) covered on my motor through them and in all the time i've had the green shed thats the first time i've even heard of that question

I've not been asked for that but some companies were unwilling to provide a quote as I've got 11 seats and need business cover. :x
If it turns out to be true that vehicles with more than 9 seats can't use the outside lane on the motorway I've got a feeling it'll be turning into an 8 seater by losing one on the benches at the back.

My insurance did want a letter of confirmation that my winch would be used for 'self recovery' purposes only
I imagine its to ensure my personal safety :lol:

Got the new certificate this morning with an attachment stating they want the 'Letter of Non-Intent' & immobiliser certificates within 10 days or they will cancel my policy :?
So, immobiliser being fitted on Friday morning & 'Letter Of Non-Intent' typed up & signed, ready to post with immobiliser details after fitting.
Now, all I need is another 'Disc-Lock' as mine's too small, I had one for my 90, but sold it to (Ithink?) Ben Kentzer when I bought the Discovery :roll:
