Well I found out today why my Disco is worse than a V8 to run :lol:
I had just put the caravan on the back and pulled the van forward ready to go stick my marker post in, as I opened my door it smelt like Bunsfield :lol:
A quick look underneath the drivers floor area and a great leak of petrol all over my chassis and dripping at a amazing pace :(
Decided to reverse van back unhitch and head home to unload my tools and stuff. Just going to take it into the garage this afternoon for repair. I havent got the enthusiasm whilst its cold like this to sit and play fixing trucks :roll:
So fingers crossed I should have a economical (in L/R terms anyway) truck again :)

there was a recall on landrover petrol fuel tanks.

That thought did cross my mind, however the leak is definately under the drivers floor rather than the rear of the disco. As the petrol is dripping there and the chassis is wet with it. Everywhere else seems dry.
I will have a search and maybe contact the local dealer up the road to see if mine has already been done. I take it they could tell from the chassis number?

yep, I should have said that in the first posting, Under there around the chassis rail are two pipes, having a touch and smell is what told be petrol :(

Took a vehicle of mine to the garage with a leaking petrol pipe by the driver's door. They just cut the steel pipe and replaced it with a plastic one and a couple of Jubilee clips to clamp the joints.

The flex fuel pipe is as good as the steel one, two main kinds are the rubber fuel pipe or the harder plastic type, once in place, they are ok.
If you are concerned about snagging them have them re routed higher on the motor, although if i remember they are on the body now, pretty safe up there

If you look the fuel tank on the disco's is plastic, that's good enough for me.
Don't forget that if you have had petrol dribbling over your chassis it's worth checking the underseal/rustproofing at some point. Petrol has a really efficent way of melting tar based stuff. A fuel leak becomes really expencive if you end up needing to repair the chassis a couple of years down the line.

most bikes use rubber fule hoses, they are more forgiving than steel tubing(not overbraid which is as tough as it comes) Most of the fuel system joints are clips of one type or another.

Just an update: Its having a pair of front to rear fuel pipes put on it. Should be ready for collection Monday PM/Tuesday.

Another update: Still not got it back :(
The dealer they ordered off havent delivery the pipes yet :( Damn mpi's arent a common shelf product :(
Ive emailed craddocks and paddocks to see if I can get anything sooner and quicker.
Ive asked to see if it can be botched for a while so I have some transport and the pipe is bad along on the length :(
What it needs is the pipe tank to filter, filter to engine and the return. Anyone any bright ideas ?

Use the old pipes a patterns and get some custom ones made.

They did look at that, but the pipes have rubber flexible parts at the ends and they say they couldnt make up something similar and it be safe.

I was thinking more along the lines of permanently flexible braided fuel lines - stainless Goodrich hose type of things.
Maybe they are just a bit unsure about their capabilities and prefer to stick to standard parts you know, the 'safe option'.
Must admit, I'd have been tempted to source my own and give them a disclaimer covering their fitting rather than having the motor unusable for so long.

I phoned paddocks they dont do them, waiting for craddocks to get back to me. Will phone a stealer in the morning.
They say the dealer should have them in tomorrow anyway.

Yup!
Main Dealer is £25+£31 for the feed pipes, £45 for the return £5.20 for a fuel filter and £112 for the tank unit.
Thats what they are ordering on Monday anyway, holy smoke am I missing my disco :cry:

Well tonight i collected it :)
3x fuel pipes, 1x tank sender, 1x fuel filter and labour all for just under £450 :roll:
I dread to think what other parts are going to be like for the Mpi as and when I need them :(
Anyway I can play for the weekend then its MOT time ready for the 10th :(
