I built the motor up 19 years ago and had a zero miles speedo in it and it is on its 3rd engine but original gearbox and axles from the build they where all reconned then before i got it it was a fire engine at vauxhall motors

My Dad's 88" IIa has done a similar mileage - about 387,000 on the speedo last time I looked (but it lost about 20,000 miles when I swapped speedos to get it reading right with 750's).  One rebuild of the 2.25 petrol in that time at about 300,000 miles, and a second gearbox rebuild needed very soon.

the gearbox on mine will want a rebuild soon and at the moment it is a race between the td5 90 i have and the v8 for my attention lol, trying to get the td5 on the road is getting harder as the v8 demands more attention to keep it on the road, but hey ho Landrovers are a conveyorbelt of maintainance............and not a cuddly toy in sight.......my sister lives just outside Auckland and i am under instructions that i have to visit her this year

and a few more years of ownership...............who said landrovers are not green how many vehicles are new today that are going to see more than a decade and a half of motoring ..........not many....... as they are designed with a six year lifespan and the electronics will pack up after that sort of time if not before

210,000 miles has been done in my rover 620. Admitedly it isnt a 4x4 or the same engine as i went through a deep ford 4 years ago and got water in the engine and blew out pistons, it has had a replacment gearbox about 2k miles ago but it is still brilliant and has passed 5 out of the 6 mot's first time. It is due for another mot on monday week and I know it will fail as the aedvisories from last year still havent been done! They maybe fine and pass who knows?

But even so most of the running gear has been changed so its a new vehicle really. My target mileage is 250,000 now.

worth nothing but as reliable as I can get and tow my large caravan wonderfully except on a wet grassy camp site, but now I have the disco that will do some of the towing.

My Hilux Surf 3.0L TD is at 170,000 now. As far as I can tell it's all original engine and running gear appart from wheel bearings and the like.

It's just started to drip oil and doesn't sound as smooth as it used to 3 years and 60,000 miles ago. Might be due for a re-build soon?

Hi, not a 4x4 either but my Citroen Xantia diesel has done over 300.000 miles and is still on the original clutch (on its last legs though!)

The only thing that ever broke was the gearselectormechanism. Oh and the exhaust fell off last month.....

Back to 4x4's: I've just put a 280K Merc diesel in my G-wagen, this engine is not reconditioned and still runs fine and as I won't be doing huge mileages I am hoping it will continue to run...

regards

G.
