I want to remove the rear anti roll bar on my Disco. Is it under tension or is it a simple case of unbolting? Anything I should watch for or be careful of?
Cheers

just unbolt it, its all ok :)

and you don't even need to flinch   Mines a 200tdi without anti-roll fitted and it handles fine.
-
you do need to be aware of the change in handling performance though dont go roaring into bends like your used to first time out with it
-
and if its had one, you'll need to put it back on for its MOT otherwise its a fail.
Cant remember where I read that, either here or on the disco owners club forum.

YEH, mind your bonce on that big bit between the wheels as you crawl in/out! :D :D :D

It will make your car handle differently, Itll need to be on for the MOT, The insurance will want to know, The coastguard insist on a written declaration, and lastly, NASA will declare the vehicle unsafe.....
Damn, Im fighting the wrong side of the argument...
Take it off, be aware and be carefull, and keep it just in case its ever needed again.

Taken the rear ARB of mine but thought it did not effect MOT?
What if they were never fitted as i have heard not all had them?
Also any hints on removing front ARB :x :x
-
If it has the mountings it needs to be present for the MOT.
-
Out comes the Grinder then :D
-
And I thought it wouldn't fail its mot without it. Mot next month so I'll keep it on for a little longer.

Not strictly true Damo.
even the pre 300 series Discos have the mountings there for ARB.
Mine certainly has.
AIUI the ARB was an extra on some models.
If it is standard on the model then yes they should be there for MOT.
With the new MOT it may be that the computer can tell them what to check and what should be fitted on each model.
How long before the MOT starts to flag up vehicle Mods?

You've got it spot on Ed.

This is straight out of the Tester Manual.
Section 2.4 para G2:
Check that an anti-roll bar is fitted to an axle on which it is standard.
Reason for rejection:
An anti-roll bar not fitted to an axle on which it is standard.
It's all down to what the tester knows about your vehicle..
If the tester knows your vehicle and knows that it should
have one fitted and you have removed it.. It's going to fail.
-
Interesting, Mine didn't have an anti roll bar as standard, but half of the mounting points are there (they're either missing on the chassis, or the axle, ISTR)
does that mean I should half fail ?
-
Only 6 Months MOT for you Daz.

my 200tdi doesnt have them either. all the mounts are there sure enough but no roll bar. passed its MOT with flying colours
and i think she handles perfectly too . :D
