As regular readers may know I have recentley taken delivery of a v reg TD5 Disco. :) She is running on road tyres at the moment.
Now i used to have a 300Tdi defender on all terrains which went just about anywhere without ever getting stuck... mmm think you know whats coming. Went to work and there was nowhere to park so bumped it up the kerb to stick it on the grass verge  The verge is on a bit of a slope ( 1 in 5 ) and a little churned up where one or two of the other lads have parked on slightly dryer days. It was chucking it down :!:
...right onto grass we go... mmm going sideways now down the hill...:?. I know i'll....PANIC and accelerate hard :!: oh b*****.
Not used to Non-diff-lock vehicles with all the electronic traction control stuff and stuck as a stuck thing and had to be towed out by a mate in a 200Tdi disco (with a diff-lock). Progress eh? bloody electronic things
sorry no photo's but thought i'd come clean and make ya'll smile

One of 'those' moments!
Fortunately you only tend to do it the once (but never hear the end of it!)
-
Now,
stand up in front of your computer,
with your right hand reach up to your left shoulder,
Pinch your shirt with your thumb and forfinger,
And say " I've been PIMPED"
Welcome to the club. :(biglaugh):
-
Time to swap it for a proper Disco ?
-
I am humbled by the responses of love and support in my moment of need.... :!: :!:

Fit a Diff Lock to it ASAP!!!
Being an 'early' version, the CDL is fitted ... you just need to install the linkage to operate it.

I looked at it for mine. But I don't think I have the spigot on the transfer box

Yes, and well worth it it is too. I have one from Discoparts fitted to mine. Works very well, and is soleniod operated, so a push of a button to engage rather than wrestle with a lever
Also, got a set of 6 month old Goodyear AT/R's (235/70R16's) in the garage if you might be interested in swapping those road tyres out

A.............at least you were recovered by a Landrover ,so not all bad

1 Proper Disco available for swap, one careful lady owner (and then everybody afterwards  ), immaculate except for one missing side step and one bent.
You are a brave man posting that one here
Most people would have just hidden in a cupboard for a few weeks to get over the mental scars.

Just trying it on really
Seeing if I can swap my old 300 for your shiny TD5 (catch you while you are down  ).
Definately no giving up, I'm game to try anything, and as for a shinier model - I'm not sure either SWMBO or my bank manager would let me

Not surprised just jealous of the comfort you do it in :D

Would love to but hadn't realised the baggage that comes with the bairn. This weekend I'm "lucky" enough to have both grandmothers coming to visit :(
Becky would kill me if I went and had a good time while she had to cope with them.
She's not happy leaving Jake for too long with anyone else at the moment.
And he's rather demanding when it comes to feeding times and nappy changes which rules out bringing him with us.
Apparently things will get better when he's 21

Well, try adding these two together and tell he you won't be having a good time because you are in a Defender

Naaah, get him the right training and he'll be a good gate opener soon

It is amazing how you just get used to 'go anywhere' ability.
On a rare occasion out in the company Transit (old rear wheel drive type) I had to answer a phone call so I just bumped the near side up onto the grass verge and took the call. Went to pull away and...... nothing! Tried to reverse and...... nothing! You get the picture :D I did eventually manage to get it off by rocking it back and forth until I gained a bit of momentum, but it was close
You are not alone my friend :D But at least mine wasn't meant to be good off road!!!

Checkout Discoparts (http://www.discoparts.com/asp/products.asp?CatID=6) - there're two options here. I have the mechanical linkage, whereas Simon (Hightower) has the solenoid version.
As to the HDC, ABS and ETC - this will be disabled if the CDL is engaged when you start up, but not if you start the engine BEFORE operating the CDL (yep, confusion reigns). Personally, I got fed up with this, and snipped the wire that 'tells' the SLABS ECU that the CDL is engaged (pin 9 of the third (out of five) multiplug, black/blue wire), so I have the best of both worlds!
