Guys,
The rev counter has started throwing a wobbly. Sometimes it doesn't work at all then others it dances around between 0-3k and sometimes it seems to work perfectly.
Been like this a couple of weeks now. The motor is run daily both on and off road.
I undertand it senses the alternator output and suspect a dodgy connection to the rev counter but I cant identify what i need to clean up.
Anyone suggest which wire/s I'm looking for - its a 300TDi ?

IIRC it's the white/black single wire going onto a spade terminal at the back of the alternator.
I just removed the original connector and replaced it with a new one, after trying to clean it up several time only for it to start again a couple of months later. Not had any problems in the last 4 years.

the new disco is doing the same thing, so cheers Budgie i will give that a look too.

I would say alternator as well, thats what my fault was!

and so the story begins...... i best not let SWMBO see this thread, or she will think its the 90 all over again

It can be the alternator itself but unless it's showing other signs like the alternator light on the dash then it's worth going for the rev counter feed wire first. It far cheaper for a start!! :D

Cheers Budgie - will get under the bonnet in the morning and have a look.
