Title: 4x4 Magazines
Post by: jiffyman on January 13, 2006, 20:28:42
OK people, which 'other' 4x4 offroad magazines do you buy, apart from the LR only mags?

Used to see one called Total Offroad but cant seem to find anything other than the american ones.

Any ideas? Cheers

Years ago there used to be 'Overland'

It metamorphosised into 'Off Road & 4-Wheel Drive'

There was also;
'4x4'

'4x4 Driver' (John Caroll; 'LRW' editor used to write for this, he also edited? 'Back Street Heroes' at roughly the same time)

'International Off-Road & 4x4' (Frank Elson of 'LRM' journalism wrote for this)

plus another posher title that eludes me (Phil Llewwellyn wrote for it)

Got some copies of these down in my snug

IMHO Total Offroad is the best.  I tend not to buy LR only as they bore me.

LRO and occasionally Total Off Road or Land Rover Enthusiast.

It is amazing that there are four Land Rover mags that manage to stay viable in this day and age. Especially as previously stated the articles are often quite repetitive.

I like "Petersons 4 wheel and off road" and "4x4 builder," both American mags.  They do proper build-ups and have pages of detail rather than the numpty stuff you get in the UK mags.

TOR is a regular too, largely because of it's unbiased vehicle tendancy (until this month) and the road books.  If you can't be bothered to find a WH Smith, try your local newsagent as they should be able to get it for you 'specially if you tell them its published by Waterway World Ltd.
