Title: New fuel for V8's
Post by: littlepow on January 16, 2006, 11:45:36
Just read this link,

Could be interesting to try, pity it's only in Somerset. Only hope it's as cheap as LPG.

I wonder what differances in parts/materials are required to run on this fuel though?  :?

I know that ethenol fueled drag racers have had problems with it. You need to seal everything as it can get past ordinary o rings etc, it corrodes them.Sump fires are quite common where it gets into the gearbox oil... now that wouldnt be fun but they are running it pure not a mix.
On a positive it is great news for the environment and if commercially available by 2010 its very promising

nowt like old news boifuel has been around for years
renewable fuels for diesel have been around since the first diesel engine (which was run on ground nut oil) all diesels could run on veg oil up until 1947
this is nowt new its just that the oils companies have the monopoly
we should get together with gr**np*ace  (if they can stop the anti 4x4 stuff and join the real world for a minute) and force the goverment to let us develop alternative fuels without being taxed to death before getting off the starting blocks

Great, corosive, burns with an invisible flame, just what we need driving around on the roads. As if petrol isnt bad enough.
Mebbe when the oil has run out and theres no alternative, till then, I cant see BP backing down and letting the biofuel makers step foreward.

Sounds scathing, Im sorry, but ethanol based fuels are pretty dangerous, and have to be injected in large amounts, as they are a ridiculously low 'octane' (as I understand it). On a race engine, a misfire can lead to the cylinder hydraulicing, and imagine a ruptured fuel pipe, invisible flames and all that.....

Hi,

They were using ethanol in fuel in Australia for a while - a lot of cars had a lot of problems!!!  then all the petrol stations started advertising ethanol free petrol  :?   so i am very wary of ethanol
