hi can anyone tell me how to stop the rocker cover gasket from leaking? i have put new one on and torqued [is that the right spelling] them up. i also put a smear of oil on before hand. any ideas? ](*,)sorry i forgot to say its a 300 tdi

Could be a Land Rover standard oil leak ie: two mating surfaces do not meet properly (deliberate design flaw). You could try taking it off again, cleaning both surfaces (inside the rocker and the top of the head) and smearing a nice thick goo of blue hermatite sealer on each surface then "sticking" the gasket to the rocker cover and refitting. If it still leaks after that you have a ruddy big hole somewhere! :) :)

Or weld the flaming thing into place
But yes the jointing compound way is always favourable even with a new gasket

I also had an oil leak from the rocker cover gasket on my 300Tdi. Purchased a new gasket and cleaned up the parts. Then as said by someone earlier, i coated the mating surfaces with Blue Hermetitite and torqued up. Not had a problem with oil leaks since.
