Well my mates finally seen the light of day and is buying a Disco (3.9v8 on a M reg,ES spec.).He's asked me to go with him to look at it,it's got service history up to it's current 70,000 miles.Are there any real nasties to look out for? PS-he's just informed me were going tomorrow morning.

righto look at the rear floor for rot the sills for rot the door post the inner wings and all the electrics work fine also check the chassi for heavy off road make sure all the diff locks work etc etc try to check all the runnung gera eg prop ujs etc and check for signs if the transfer boxs and such like have been cleaned as i dont like that they might be hiding something im sure other peeps on ere will have some other places to check good luck with it :wink:

also you might like to check for any overheating.they do crack blocks and sometimes the sleeves move.
drive at 70 mph for about 4 miles will tell you if it overheats.

and don't offer anything near the asking price (whatever the condition), it really is a buyers' market for Discos at the mo!!

:D agree with puxs all the above also check paperwork and the boring stuff is worth taking some tools get on back and check diff oils take about 2 mins check all mounting points for wear and rust when driving if the brake pedal goes nearly to the floor and then you push again and its well hard thats a sign that the front bearings on way out check condition of all drive belts check steering ball joints not forgetting the track rods are not bent and any free play ect.... check when timming belt last changed and then change again ..peace of mind ...check inside of the air box for signs of water ingrese .check gearbox is smooth change ..all this can be used in negotiating the final price :D and good luck hope all works well for you
