Title: Fuel economy record
Post by: MTyrrell on January 24, 2006, 00:00:58: We have been working on an interesting project at work,

Volkswagen are going for the world fuel economy record in a new golf. They are 5 days in to the challenge now and are getting about 51Mpg at the moment. Now if i could get the landy to return that sort of economy.

We were given the task of tracking the record and support car's so the live position can be displayed on the website as well as calculating and relaying the official mileage using GPS.

Our fitter, who is a VW enthusiast, wasn't to happy about drilling holes in to the body work of two brand spanking new top speck passat's and a new golf to fit the satellite and GPS aerials. It's backed by shell so its a mony no object venture :?

sure it was in a LandRover mag last year

Post by: Manicminer on January 24, 2006, 19:51:17: A mate of mine always boasts that he gets over 50 mpg in his peugot powered 2.0 Suzuki Grand Vitara. He also claims to have squeezed nearly 70 mpg at speeds of 35 - 40 mph coming home from Essex late one night when he was low on fuel.

FUEL ECONOMY MEANS
if you can afford the fuel it's economic

if you can't

the vehicle is too dear to run so it is

un economic

Fuel economy - any V8 that gets better than our speedway car that drinks 4 litres of methanol per mile. And what really gets my goat is that methanol without any road tax is still the same price as petrol. :evil:

Whats that work out at?

I filled the tank and ran untill the fuel light came on

Post by: muddyjames on January 27, 2006, 12:12:11: My mate next door has a stage 1 v8 on lpg and his does something horrible like 9p per mile :twisted:

If only my cars did that mpg. My 620 does 12p and the disco is 16p a mile.

I am so tempted to go with lpg on the rover when the kit prices come down. I maybe able to afford toys for the disco then!
